Publisher's Summary
An escape to the country...ends in death.
Summer 1933. Fresh from the discovery that she has family living nearby, Kitty Underhay has packed her carpet bag, commandeered a chambermaid and set off on a visit to stately Enderley Hall. She’s looking forward to getting to know her relatives, as well as the assembled group of house guests. But when elderly Nanny Thoms is found dead at the bottom of the stairs after papers of national importance are stolen, Kitty quickly learns that Muffy the dog’s muddy paws on her hemline are the least of her problems.
Calling on ex-army captain Matthew Bryant for assistance, Kitty begins to puzzle out the mystery. And when more shocking murders follow, the stakes are raised for the daring duo as never before. Which of the guests stand to gain from the theft of the documents? And which, as the week progresses, stand to lose their lives?
A charming cozy historical murder mystery that fans of Agatha Christie, T.E. Kinsey and Lee Strauss won’t be able to put down!

Very pleasant mystery, good narrator, cozy and fun
This was a very pleasant book to listen to. Just enough of a plot twist to keep you interested, but not too crazy all over where you had to pay a lot of attention. I love cozy mysteries like this. The narration was very good. Also the content was very clean which I appreciate.

A poor successor to first in series
I really enjoyed the first book Dolphin Hotel and bought this second one as soon as it was released. So very disappointed in the story. Maybe the author will find the magic of her first book soon. Will probably return this one

Kind of Boring
I really liked the first book so I thought I’d like the second one, but I have to say I muddled through it. It really didn’t hold my attention or interest.

Lighthearted romp
I enjoyed this historical “cozy” murder mystery and will look for more in the series. Fascinating characters and settings make this seem like a vacation from my everyday life. Well done, Helena Dixon and Alex Tregear!

Anachronistic language
It is a nice story but the currently fashionable castrated language is rather annoying even today, but impossible and idiotic in 1933.

Great story, great adventure! I love this series
So very well written. I have listened to it at least twice and still enjoy it like the first time. Narration is spot on, the characters are well rounded and defined and it was very difficult to figure out who dunit. Very highly recommended. I hope this series never ends.
