Publisher's Summary

“I can’t say enough good things about the audio editions and narrator Thérèse Plummer, who has done a phenomenal job throughout the entire series."—The Bibliosanctum

New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong’s Rockton Novels had one of the most unique towns in crime fiction. Murder at Haven's Rock is a spinoff, a fresh start... with a few new dangers that threaten everything before it even begins.

Haven’s Rock, Yukon. Population: 0

Deep in the Yukon wilderness, a town is being built. A place for people to disappear, a fresh start from a life on the run. Haven’s Rock isn’t the first town of this kind, something detective Casey Duncan and her husband, Sheriff Eric Dalton, know firsthand. They met in the original town of Rockton. But greed and deception led the couple to financing a new refuge for those in need. This time around, they get to decide which applicants are approved for residency.

There’s only one rule in Haven’s Rock: stay out of the forest. When two of the town's construction crew members break it and go missing, Casey and Eric are called in ahead of schedule to track them down. When a body is discovered, well-hidden with evidence of foul play, Casey and Eric must find out what happened to the dead woman, and locate those still missing. The longer Casey and Eric don’t know what happened, the more danger everyone is in.

What the critics say

“Excellent. . . Armstrong gives her lead a complex mystery to solve, while vividly evoking the eerie isolation of the setting. Paul Doiron fans will be pleased.” –Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Kelley Armstrong is truly the best !

I absolutely love this book, I am a little bit hesitant about the male voices that the narrator does, but that was fine enough that I could get past it

Great new spin off series!!!!

This is a great spin off from the Rockton series. This book begins with the construction of a new town being built in the Yukon. The town’s name will be Rock Haven. The people behind the new town are the husband/wife team of Casey Duncan and Eric Dalton. They were the former law enforcement in Rockton. I would strongly suggest listening to the first book in the previous series for some background, however if you choose not to then I think this being the first book in the new series is a good place to start.
Prior to Casey and Eric arriving in Rock Haven two people working for the construction company wander off into the forest and go missing. Every one has been warned not to go into the forest. There are great dangers, after all this is the Yukon. The trees are thick. That’s one of the reasons this spot was chosen. From the air the town would be hard to find. It’s being built to blend in.
Casey, Eric and their Newfoundland dog fly in to search for the missing people. They hadn’t planned on coming so soon because they had planned to live there alone for the first year and then allow other residents in. Out hunting for the missing Casey stumbles and her had goes into the snow where it lands on a woman’s body.
Someone is missing , there’s someone injured and there’s a killer on the loose. To make things really special another person may have found gold only miles from their new secret community.
Thérèse Plumber does an excellent job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

So good to be back!

It feels so, so good to be back. I pre-ordered this book the second I could, and it completely lived up to expectations. Returning to the Yukon, even if it wasn't Rockton, was like a breath of fresh air.

I loved the blend of familiar characters and new, and I'm really hoping that some of the newbies will stick around to become new regulars. As always, the mystery was well-crafted, and I was on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time I was reading.

And, of course, Therese Plummer is excellent. She's become one of my favorite narrators, and I can't imagine this series without her.

I'm already so, so looking forward to the next one!

A bit disappointed

I read a short story of Ms Armstrongs and quickly looked for novels it was so good! I found this book to be a bit wordy and the thought process of the main character started to grate on me. The ending was great tho, didn’t see it coming and was left with wanting more! So on to the next book in the series!

8 Books and I Still Love the Series

First, Thérèse Plummer is an excellent narrator. I found this series because of Thérèse Plummer, who narrated the City Series by Sarah Lyons Flemming (highly recommend). She has the ability to do lots of characters, male and female, and distinguish each.

Second, I like how the stories follow Casey's thinking as we consider different scenarios and who might be the bad guy. I've enjoyed each mystery. The quick recap on recurring characters is helpful since there are sometimes gaps in between books. Looking forward to more books in the series.

LOVED IT! Can't wait for the series to continue

I've really come to enjoy Kelley Armstrong's series around Casey Duncan/Butler and the Yukon settlements. They're immersive, exciting and at the same time kind of calming. There's something about everyday life and the community that she created that almost makes you want to move over to Rockton or now Haven's Rock yourself (minus the deaths, maybe :D)

This title was interesting as it is the continuation of the Rockton series, a complete story in its own right while also building the world and setting the stage for a new series with characters we've come to know and love. The majority of characters were newly introduced as part of a new temporary community (who are building the new settlement), so I found myself not caring as much about some folks as in the previous series. Armstrong also introduced some characters shrouded in fascinating mystery that I'm looking forward to learning more about over time.

I essentially binged this book; Thérèse Plummer's amazing narration even elevated it a notch, she is a fantastic performer. Highly recommended and I can't wait for the next part in the series :)

Solid start to series spinoff.

Murder at Haven’s Rock is a spin-off to the author’s Rockton series. You might not *need* to have read the Rockton books first, but I’d recommend it.

In this book, our MC, Casey & Dalton arrive to investigate two missing employees on a the crew building the new town Haven’s Rock. There’s the usual murder & mystery & an interesting start to see how running their own hidden sanctuary town will compare with working for the corporation running Rockton. Unfortunately, it will likely be another year to wait for more—but I’ll definitely be waiting.

This is the first time I tried an audiobook involving these series/characters & Therese Plummer did a good job with the audio.
