About this listen
Acclaimed actor Jeremy Renner narrates his gripping and inspiring story of a near-fatal accident and what he learned about inner strength, endurance and hope as he overcame insurmountable odds to recover, one breath at a time. This program includes a note written and read by his daughter, Ava.
“Renner’s description of his recovery is life affirming and just pretty incredible. His narration is particularly harrowing. There are occasional cuts to 911 calls on the day of the incident, and you can even hear Renner fighting to stay alive in the background. I’m of the mind that not every celebrity needs a memoir, but this one’s worth it.”—Vulture
"With audible emotion Renner navigates his reflections on life and death…Enhancing the audio are the original 911 interactions as the accident unfolded.”—AudioFile
Two-time Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner was the second-most-googled person in 2023—and not for his impressive filmography. His searing portrayals on film ranged from an Iraq-based army bomb technician in The Hurt Locker and a Boston bank robber in The Town to a crooked Camden mayor in American Hustle before he became heir to the Jason Bourne franchise (The Bourne Legacy). Amongst other iconic roles, he also captured hearts as fan-favorite comic book marksman Hawkeye in seven Marvel films.
Yet, his otherworldly success on-screen faded to the periphery when a fourteen-thousand-pound snowplow crushed him on New Year’s Day 2023. Somehow able to keep breathing for more than half an hour, he was subsequently rushed to the ICU, after which he would face multiple surgeries and months of painful rehabilitation.
In this debut memoir, Jeremy describes in blistering detail his accident and the aftermath. This retelling is not merely a gruesome account of what happened to him; it’s a call to action and a forged companionship between listener and author as Jeremy recounts his recovery journey and reflects on the impact of his suffering. Ultimately, Jeremy’s memoir is a testament to the human spirit and its capacity to endure, evolve, and find purpose in the face of unimaginable adversity. His writing captures the essence of profound transformation, exploring the delicate interplay between vulnerability and strength, despair and hope, redemption and renewal.

Incredible Human Being
This book is truly inspiring. Jeremy is quite a remarkable person. His positive attitude and gratefulness is so inspiring. I balled my eyes out listening to this book. What he & his family went through & how he came out on the other side with an even bigger heart. Keep on being you Jeremy.

Remarkable story of Survival.
I like the whole book. I wish he go into more details about how he healed, what he did for chronic pain, knee pain etc. I have chronic pain and fibromyalgia and would love to know his stragies for healing.

No greater hero is there in a father for his child.
I first noticed Jeremy in Mission Impossible, then The Town, and yeah the Marvel movies. I don't know why, but I saw and felt a sensitive, or is it an awareness of life in his performances, and I liked it of him. It came through his eye for me.
Going back to that day I saw the new of his "event" it felt different than other well know folks and that is because he reached me, and with the reaction of the public it was evident that millions also had the same sentiments.
This book, and the Audible I think is the best way to digest it with the actual author and survivor of an event that would have finished many. Jeremy is so free in his telling of that day and the journey he went through and will still be into the, "Wink, wink" hereafter. It would be a "bad" not to mention that I found out about this memoir on "The Joe Rogan Experience" and bought the book once he mentioned it. Go and watch that!
Man, I wish I could hug the guy.
The main thing of my blabbing review is the father. Jeremy has the "Father's heart" hands down with a vice grip. I believe if he didn't have his everything, Ava, his daughter, we would not be reading this book.
I am going to hug and love on my daughter amd boys because of his example and his perspectives of the "Why" to be a father and love unconditionally.
My two cents world. Blessings to you all!🙏

Great Memoir
In true Jeremy Renner fashion, the narration is emotional, colorful and raw. I love listening to biographies, because you're hearing the account straight from the author and Mr Renner did not disappoint. The horrific detail of the incident, as he calls it, is hard to hear at times. The 911 call recordings really put things into perspective, but be prepared to hear him suffer in the background. I got choked up more than once, especially when he was telling us how this impacted everyone around him. He is truly a hero in how he pulled through and persevered. I am in awe of his strength.

Real life
Jeremy Renner gives an emotional description of his crazy moment in time that brought out all the good. He’s such a good speaker with his raw emotion, it doesn’t feel like you’re listening to someone read a story but talking to you in person.

Highly Recommend, But Brace Yourself
There’s a lot to say, so here we go!
As an empath, I chose to initially listen rather than read in order to get the full genuine impact of what was being said through Jeremy’s own voice and emotions. I knew of Ava’s excerpt, but what I didn’t expect, were the recordings…
That, caught me off guard. The reality of it blind-sided me and… I cried. I was also left amazed on how everything played out; with uncanny elements that caught my attention.
As I listened, I found myself sometimes talking back too… whatever two cents I had to say in the moment. This audiobook really drew me in; it was visceral and it was raw…. Yes, there were plenty of instances where I laughed too.
The sheer amount of love from family, friends and even strangers who became intimate parts of the narrative was very much at the forefront of every chapter.
I made the choice to listen to it in one go, as well. It wasn’t like the people who were -there- directly affected in reality had no choice other but to suffer, endure and then heal through all of it without being able to press pause.
My reasoning was that it was only fair I go through only a mere 6h 36min. of the awfully real and wonderfully inspiring recounting the incident and its aftermath, without stopping.
I’m a proud owner of a lot of (physical) books but this audiobook, well… it hit different and it hit hard and it hurt but for good reasons in the end. There’s a logic in Jeremy’s mindset that I can relate to…
I’ll want to add this one to my collection because I’d like to go through it again, word for word, and without the overwhelming rush of emotions that comes with listening to someone you fiercely admire literally struggle for every breath.
It’s a long review, hope you enjoyed!
