Publisher's Summary
The storm of the century is about to hit Little Bridge Island, Florida - and it’s sending waves crashing through Sabrina “Bree” Beckham’s love life....
When a massive hurricane severs all power and cell service to Little Bridge Island - as well as its connection to the mainland - 25-year-old Bree Beckham isn’t worried...at first. She’s already escaped one storm - her emotionally abusive ex - so a hurricane seems like it will be a piece of cake.
But animal-loving Bree does become alarmed when she realizes how many islanders have been cut off from their beloved pets. Now it’s up to her to save as many of Little Bridge’s cats and dogs as she can...but to do so, she’s going to need help - help she has no choice but to accept from her boss’s sexy nephew, Drew Hartwell, the Mermaid Café’s most notorious heartbreaker.
But when Bree starts falling for Drew, just as Little Bridge’s power is restored and her penitent ex shows up, she has to ask herself if her island fling was only a result of the stormy weather, or if it could last during clear skies, too.

Cute story
I liked this story, it is an easy read. I have read many of Meg Cabot's books and while a nice story, it is not one of my favorites.

Great read/listen
As usual Cabot’s characters are relatable and the story engaging. I highly enjoyed this novel and recommend it to any who not only enjoys Cabot’s previous works but also those looking for a relatable romance and fantastic story telling.
The only downside is that I wish it came out sooner so I could have enjoyed it while my little island dealt with hurricane Dorian!

This book isn’t good
I so wanted this book to be good. I normally love Meg Cabot but this book is just bad. It’s boring and predictable, and frankly the MC is annoying and questionable if not dumb.
The hurricane stuff was just wrong. Like, actually inaccurate to the point where it’s laughable. But if you can read past that, there’s more. Then we’re supposed to not judge PEOPLE WHO LEFT THEIR PETS BEHIND IN A CAT 5 HURRICANE EVEN THOUGH THEY THEMSELVES FELT THEY WOULD BE UNSAFE THERE??? GIRL WHAT??? Meg what were you thinking!!!
At least the end half wasn’t so incredibly boring. I feel like the first half of the book was Bree getting offered an evacuation / shelter option every chapter and saying no to each one because she was “tired of running” or whatever?? So basically a natural disaster and animal abuse were downplayed in this, and then it’s also a romance. Plus a couple of modern terms like “bougie” and “ghosted” were thrown in.
So if you’re looking for a “quirky” read about a romance in a hurricane that’s unrealistic while having a bunch of awkward cliches and animal abuse thrown in, this is for you. I can’t with this book lol

Eh
They fell in love too quickly, she had no reason not to be with him really (wasn’t ready for a relationship) then decided suddenly without warning or reason she was.

Chick lit! Yay!
No doubt about it, this was Chick Lit at its best. The characters were believable, but not especially unique or interesting. The plot, however, kept me fascinated enough while I did housework. There is a hurricane headed for a small tropical island. Most everyone on the island chooses to evacuate as has been recommended, but a small group elects to stay on the island and face the storm. The hurricane damages the bridge which connects the mainland to the island and many people who had left their pets in their homes are unable to get back to them the next day as planned. Fortunately a waitress and her possible love interest develop a plan to feed and water all of the animals. Sometimes you just have to have a feel good book.

Cute but long
Cute, but felt very drawn out. I haven’t listened to much (any?) Meg Cabot before, so this might just not be a good fit for me.

Let this storm of a story sweep you away!
Almost as good as the Ugly Barnacle, but not quite.
But give it a read for yourself.

Excellent
I have been a fan of Meg Cabot for a long time, and was excited when I saw this coming out. I was definitely not disappointed, and loved the narrator!
