Publisher's Summary

For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself.

Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

Thrust from the familiar comfort of the wilds, the party will have to navigate the perils of noble society while keeping themselves in the competition. Between scheming nobles, a hidden high priest, dangerous challenges, and too many familiar faces, just making it out alive will be a challenge. But surviving alone won't be enough; not with a vengeful god scheming in the shadows, and a stolen soul waiting for rescue.

If the party wants their chance to strike back, they'll have to find a way to emerge victorious.

Another Great Audiobook

I love this series, and this book did not disappoint.
Roger Wayne delivered another great performance.
I love Drew Hayes' works. He expertly wove the plot through twists and turns. We finally get to learn more about certain mysteries, but as we get answers, more questions surface. I can't wait for the next book in the series!!

Keeps getting better

The story keep getting better with Thistle and co. While the real world storyline is taking a back burner, I’m fine with that as the main story is engaging and the characters are growing on us.

All the best elements of D&D and storytelling

The narrator is excellent as he gives voice to multiple characters. The storytelling was gripping and I listened through it over a couple if days.
And it ends on a cliffhanger - glagh! I am genuinely upset that I will be waiting years for a sequel.

Great story was hoping for a bit more

The premise is great and I feel like it kind of went a bit flat in the fourth book. Was hoping for a resurgence in this fifth book but it seemed like it was laying the foundation and no real big plot twists in this one. Would like to see more connection between the game world and real world that is something I think the author should go all out on. I do like some of the back story on the original NPCs parents. Hoping for more fantasy real world crossover with book 6. Still great sub genre of a a kit RPG esque book without 25+ minutes of stats.
