INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author known for her “superb pacing, twisted characters, and captivating prose” (BuzzFeed), Lisa Jewell returns with a scintillating new psychological thriller about a woman who finds herself the subject of her own popular true crime podcast.

Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.

A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix’s children’s school. Josie has been listening to Alix’s podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.

Josie’s life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can’t quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. Slowly she starts to realize that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it, Josie has inveigled her way into Alix’s life—and into her home.

But, as quickly as she arrived, Josie disappears. Only then does Alix discover that Josie has left a terrible and terrifying legacy in her wake, and that Alix has become the subject of her own true crime podcast, with her life and her family’s lives under mortal threat.

Who is Josie Fair? And what has she done?

Worth a credit, I promise

I’m pretty judicious with my credits, I listen mostly to the free/included content.

I loved this from the beginning to the end. Listened in 2 days.

Best book I’ve heard in a long, long time!

I always rate but never review. I have listened to more than 200 titles on audible and this is for sure in my top 5. I like Lisa Jewell and love Ruth Ware (except the last one -Zero Days) but this one knocks it out of the park! I actually got goose bumps and found myself covering my mouth in shock and gasping! lol
I can’t remember doing that since The Good House or The Heart-Shaped box.
Narrators are fantastic and the injections of the podcast and news clips just makes it over the top fabulous.
Use a credit. I promise you won’t regret it. This will be one you’ll want to chat about with friends over a glass of wine and laugh at how horrified you all were!
Have fun! I wish I hadn’t heard it so I could listen again.

Great psychological thriller!

I hadn’t read anything by Jewell in a while, and this book reminded me just how great a story she can tell.
The plot line is incredibly current and in the moment. The characters well developed and the twist and turns run consistently well.
A modern story with a great plot.

WOW WOW WOW

This is one of the best thrillers that I have read. It has so many plot twists and by the end you still don’t know what to believe! Well executed mystery and I hope there will be a part 2! The only thing that was a bit confusing at the beginning was the podcast recording being integrated into the narration but once you got past the first little bit it was easy to follow.

Gripping story with nice performances.

I enjoyed the slow unraveling of the plot and relationships between the characters. The mix of traditional and podcast storytelling greatly added to the suspense.

On the edge of my seat

This story gripped me from the very beginning. I have really liked books by Lisa Jewell in the past but it had been some time since I last read anything by her. It was an unusual way of telling a story but it worked. I found the very end of the book dragged a little, but by then the suspense was over.

Weird and sad and also frustrating

I was frustrated. This was a well written piece. The audiobook was sometimes cheesy (that said if you need something for a long road trip…) but idk I think it was the last 2 hours that just brought this from a 4 to a 3. I honestly think the author needs to have a little more empathy and maybe should’ve faked the psychologists/gotten some insight into the character before publishing. Honestly a little horrifying how she managed to Lolita a victim and felt ok not digging deeper into nuanced victimhood and family violence/trauma. Just simplified trash for pool side readers to get to read drama? Bleh,

Victim shaming a teen girl?

I loved Lisa Jewell and this book until the themes of victim blaming started and only got stronger as it went on. Anyone under the age of 18 is not able to seduce an adult. This book could have really been an opportunity to explore grooming, trauma, and sexual abuse. Instead, it painted the abuser as a victim.

Very mixed feelings

Lisa Jewel is one of my favorite authors. Hers are not the typical thrillers as she is able to develop interesting characters and tell unique stories far beyond the typical who did it and psycho killer tropes. This book is no exception. This is a very unique story told very cleverly through different perspectives and, in part, through an in-story podcast format.

My mixed feelings stem from 2, not at all insignificant places (spoilers ahead…).

First, the ending is very unsatisfying in that there is a lack of resolution - like a movie setting up for a sequel.

Second, I struggle with the portrayal of the actions and motives of the antagonist - blaming a teen girl for stealing her mother’s cheating, already-married 40-something boyfriend? This man who abandons his first family/children for the teenage daughter of his girlfriend is portrayed as simply flawed but an excellent father? Certainly she must be held accountable for her awful actions as an adult but to paint her as a simple villain is troubling.

Just gratuitous disturbing behavior, flimsy story

The plot rested on grossing out the reader with outlandish gruesomeness. The twists and turns are just to disgust you so you’ll keep listening. Not actually an interesting story. Nothing new here. The narration was very good, but i wouldn’t recommend this story to anyone.

Best Book Yet!!

I have listened to several Lisa Jewell books and enjoyed them all, but this one is so unbelievably good! To think I almost returned it, because it said it was a full cast with music. I generally don’t like books like that, but this book is done extremely well. I highly highly recommend.

Absolutely spectacular!

I’ve really enjoyed Lisa Jewell’s crime books in the past, but None of This is True is so far beyond what she’s done previously. Easily the best crime novel I’ve read this year and one of the best ever. As an audiobook production, it is spectacular. I decided to listen to it as Louise Brealey is a fantastic narrator. I adored her as sweet, lovable Molly in Sherlock, but she is so completely evil as Josie. Or is she? The addition of music and the full cast enacting interviews just puts this over the top as a brilliant audio production. So highly recommended!

I have listened to well over 100 audiobooks and love psychological thrillers!! This was AMAZING…and I feel like listening to this one has got to be better than reading it!! The cast of voices, podcasts, interviews, music…it was like watching a show on tv! Fabulous story that kept me guessing and wondering -if indeed…None of this is True!!!

Left unfinished

I’m a huge Lisa Jewel fan and I pre-order all of her books. This one kept me interested throughout and I finished it in one day. The ending was dissatisfying though and left unanswered questions. I can only assume this means there’s going to be a sequel. I’ll be looking for it for sure!
