Publisher's Summary

A chance meeting with a handsome stranger turns into a whirlwind affair that gets everyone talking.

Dating is the last thing on Olivia Monroe's mind when she moves to LA to start her own law firm. But when she meets a gorgeous man at a hotel bar and they spend the entire night flirting, she discovers too late that he is none other than hotshot junior Senator Max Powell. Olivia has zero interest in dating a politician, but when a cake arrives at her office with the cutest message, she can't resist - it is chocolate cake, after all.

Olivia is surprised to find that Max is sweet, funny, and noble - not just some privileged white politician she assumed him to be. Because of Max's high-profile job, they start seeing each other secretly, which leads to clandestine dates and silly disguises. But when they finally go public, the intense media scrutiny means people are now digging up her rocky past and criticizing her job, even her suitability as a trophy girlfriend. Olivia knows what she has with Max is something special, but is it strong enough to survive the heat of the spotlight?

Love Guillory

Loved this book. Guillory is my new favorite. Her characters are smart, and contemporary. Her themes are relevant to current issues. Also if you love food, Guillory does not disappoint.

Waste of time

I couldn’t even finish it. It put me in a bad mood knowing that was what I was listening to. The narrator kept confusing g her accents. Don’t waste your dollars!

okay

I felt like the writing was repetitive and there was no depth or realness to the characters.

Nothing happens here

I wanted to like this book but the characters are so bland and dull. The protagonist, ostensibly a strong, independent, successful Black woman, spends most of the book navel-gazing and wringing her hands over her crush on a rich white politician. The author dips a timid toe into racial issues, but nothing really happens. Olivia spends half the book thinking Max is too good to be true and eating cake and then accepts Max as her boyfriend and the two of them eat a lot of cake and pies and have sex. I don't know if I can stand to finish it. The narrator does a good job, so there's that.

Romance between and lawyer and a senator

It was a really great read. I’ve read the other four and have enjoyed them all. I love how the characters interact, but would’ve loved to have seen more of Alexa and Drew! Other than that, it was too cute. I know my girlfriends and I will have fun discussing over dinner and of course, cake!❤️

Lived it!!!

Really enjoyed this book. It wove together romance, great character development, and a very good story, and also helped raise awareness of racial issues in an engaging way. Highly recommend!

ROMANCE IS NOT FOR ME

I struggled to finish this. I am more of a suspense mystery kinda person. I dont care for overt sexual interlude descriptions and out side of the sex it just seem blah. what I did like was it was modern but even still the interracial aspect was not really explored. in today's society it is a issue. story was well narrated but story itself missed a lot opportunities to have substance
