Reluctant to try it but quickly fell in love!
I really enjoyed this book! The description made me hesitant to try it because it was a little too vague but I think that is because a lot happens in the book. Karen Lynch created a very balanced main character and that is the biggest thing I loved. She was brave and could stand her ground, but was also very aware when she was out of her league and needed help. She wasn’t afraid to allow others to help, which was a refreshing change from the obnoxiously stubborn heroine in the relentless series. I found this book way better than Relentless. The dialogue was a little cheesy at times and there was less connection between the romantic interest than I wanted, which is why it is four stars instead of five.

Hunter Ascending
An amazing new world full of creatures new and old. An extraordinary new heroine who is strong, loyal, and a force to be reckoned with. This is definitely a story to remember.
I have had the pleasure of experiencing this author’s other series before having read this new series of hers, and she has certainly outdone herself this time! The world-building is exceptional, the characters are so well developed, and the creativity shown in the formation of new breeds of fae speaks to her incredible skills as an author.
Jesse is a fearsome 18-year-old bounty hunter with a mission: Find the people who abducted her parents and bring them back by any means necessary. But in order to gain the information and street-skills she needs to successfully recover them, she will need to become a hunter just like her parents, and take up the family business. She will also need to accept the help of some unexpected allies. But can they be trusted to help her, or will she pay the price of trusting too easily? One thing is for certain: Things will never be the same for Jesse James.
Caitlin is an excellent narrator with just the PERFECT cadence to her story-telling. I would highly recommend this audiobook to audio-readers!

Karen What ?
Ok I get it I loved the Relentless series. But so far just no.
The main female charter is fine, and I enjoyed her for the most part. Except for thee end of the book. Wait there was no end to this book.
No closure of any kind what so ever. The story plots where all off as well which we will get into later. And the main male charter is so bad I don't see how you can save him. There should be no redemption arch for him. If there is that would make your female protagonist supper weak and pathetic. Through out the hole book you see how good she is. But he finds it so easy to believe she this bad person, who would torcher a person to death Really! Especially when you see how much she loves her brother? And saves a guy she doesn't even like all that much but risks her own life to do so. Ya that make sense, NOT! Most of the book has plot holes all over the place.
1- She has a ability to sing a Fae to almost a coma state but stops using it pretty much after the first Fae she catches.
2- she leave Brooklyn for the fist time in her life and she this master mind of this big plot to kill someone she wouldn't even know.
3- she has a Fae Goddess stone in her hair and has a big Fae library to look the stone up and doesn't.
4- And lets not forget her parent's where in the cage next to her to prove her innocence but doesn't ya that makes senses.
I could go on and on but I think you will get the point. Lets also remember she's only 18 years old just out of High school. So as far as a romance goes we don't even know how old the main protagonist is.

I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Caitlin Kelly has the perfect cadence. The changes in her voice let you know who is talking. She did are great job. Good story.
I enjoyed the Refuge series by this same author, so decided to give 5his one a chance. As the first in a series I sometimes found it confusing remembering all the characters especially since it was introducing essentially a new world with new folklore and rules. I think this was harder as an audio book because of this. However, after everyone was introduced and the story picked up, I loved it. Very nice story with likable characters.

The worst part of the experience is that the next book isn’t out yet, because I am officially hooked! I had come across this one as I was aimlessly searching for a potential new book or series to start...and I am so glad that I picked it! The Narrator did awesome, and made the story really come alive. I’m bummed that I have to wait for the next one to be released...but thanks to this book I have set my standards high for this series, and will be reading other series from this author.

Good start, waiting for more
Let's give a round of applause 👏. Finally, a Young Adult novel where the heroine isn't an idiot, doesn't need a love Triangle to feel special, and isnt some special snowflake just realizing her powers. Thank the Cliche' Goddess!
There seems to be an obsession with girls being virgins. Also, an addiction to having kids with missing or dead parents. Are these the requirements for submitting it as Young Adults???
Anyway, the book was quite good for YA. I'm not saying the lead male couldn't have used some more depth. But all in all, I found it more entertaining than some of this popular stuff being pushed through my recommendations. I was expecting a cliffhanger but this one makes me want to spam the author until she gets Book Two out on audio asap

You’ll want to listen over and over.
I love the world Karen created for the Fae Games!
This book can be read as a stand alone, but I suspect once the other books come out it will also be a great set up to a kick ass series!
Jessie is a young woman trying to find a job in a world where the fae her parents read about in books are now real, and the rift that happened to merge the 2 worlds has thrown the world into chaos.
Jessie’s parents are bounty hunters and disappear, leaving Jessie knowledge and tools she will use to try and find them.
If you’ve ever wondered what our world would be like if sprites and goblins were real and Court Faries had clubs you could hang out at, you’ll love this book.
Caitlin does a fantastic job as a narrator and really brings this story to life.
