About this listen

From the legendary vice-chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, lessons in investment strategy, philanthropy, and living a rational and ethical life.

"Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up," Charles T. Munger advises in Poor Charlie’s Almanack. Originally published in 2005, this compendium of 11 talks, delivered by the legendary Berkshire Hathaway vice-chairman between 1986 and 2007, has become a touchstone for a generation of investors and entrepreneurs seeking to absorb the enduring wit and wisdom of one of the great minds of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Edited by Peter D. Kaufman, chairman and CEO of Glenair and longtime friend of Charlie Munger—whom he calls “this generation’s answer to Benjamin Franklin”—this abridged Stripe Press edition of Poor Charlie’s Almanack features a brand-new foreword by Stripe cofounder John Collison.

Poor Charlie’s Almanack draws on Munger’s encyclopedic knowledge of business, finance, history, philosophy, physics, and ethics—and more besides—to introduce the latticework of mental models that underpin his rational and rigorous approach to life, learning, and decision-making. Delivered with Munger’s characteristic sharp wit and rhetorical flair, it is an essential volume for any listener seeking to go to bed a little wiser than when they woke up.

Practical wisdom, holistic thinking. I enjoyed the delivery, it pairs very well with the content.

Charlie Munger’s wisdom is summarized in his talks and it’s great to learn from him. The mental checklist he is suggesting is the most useful to avoid the psychological errors we normally make in our decision making.

The greatest book ever!

A wonderful dedication to a greatly admired person, Charlie’s contribution to society is a master class in what one can achieve despite adversity in life.

Thought provoking

Great lessons and insights from the man himself. Just got a little confusing when doing the questions and answers because the narrator doesn't switch voices so a little heads up. Overall completely fantastic and I will be listening to this again!

I know some of you might be thinking why 3 atar for a great charlie munger book. I am a great admirer of the guy but the book is full of himself and warren buffets once great investment of coke, geico and gillette etc but I would like it more of the missed opportunity by them and it's cost . overall book isn't adding more on top of the annual meetings of berkshire and its philosophy.
