This is what New York Times best-selling authors Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson call a No Brain response. But our kids can be taught to approach life with openness and curiosity. When kids work from a Yes Brain, they’re more willing to take chances and explore. They’re more curious and imaginative. They’re better at relationships and handling adversity.

Many of us know we're putting too much pressure on our kids - and on ourselves - but how do we get off this crazy train? We want our children to succeed, to be their best, and to do their best, but what if they are not on board? A few years ago, Ned Johnson and Bill Stixrud started noticing the same problem from different angles: even high-performing kids were coming to them acutely stressed and lacking any real motivation. Many complained that they had no real control over their lives.

Story
Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. Parents unwittingly pass on an inheritance of psychological pain and emotional shallowness. To handle the behavior that results, traditional books on parenting abound with clever techniques for control and quick fixes for dysfunction. In Dr. Shefali Tsabary's conscious approach to parenting, however, children serve as mirrors of their parents' forgotten self.

lots of actionable tips and suggestions
loved it. that said, as with many books on parenting, most of times there are references to a family in which both parents play full in and are committed to each other. every once in a while to have a chapter spotlighting the different challenges of parenting alone it would be refreshing and make you feel "you are not alone". in this book there is one testimonial of one single mom, but it would be great to have suggestions for these situations (oh so many!) in which the family is disrupted and high, chronic stress and conflict is a status quo.

#Audible1 I love the concept of positive parenting. Rebecca Eanes does a lovely job of guiding one through all aspects of creating a positive environment for you and your little one. This book challenges you to think about roots from your own upbringing and any corrections that might be necessary to allow for a more positive and nurturing experience for your infant, child, teenager etc.

A very soft book short on concrete elements
People and the study of them is a soft science and this book is very soft indeed. I took sociology of the family at university so many of the topics and theories touched upon felt familiar but there was no exploration of them here. The book felt like the knockoff Big Mac at some small corner deli hoping that because it isn’t the chain you will overlook the lack of any depth, but they are already copying something without depth leaving the result very shallow. Without the physical book I can say for sure but it felt like each chapter would be filled with links to other people for actual details, techniques and YouTube videos even to watch. Listening to it I briefly thought to make notes on where and what I was to look up for more but there got to be too many for me to be bothered in the end. If you are already trying an approach like this the book can either clap you on the back, but it wouldn’t sell _me_ on switching if I hadn’t already been trying it.

I wish I would have read this sooner
I absolutely love this book! I wish I would have read/listened to this book earlier in my journey to becoming a parent. After reading some of the reviews I decided to wait on reading it but this will be a book I reference back to many times I'm sure and will be listening to it again soon and will be getting the printed version so I have it available to flip through pages due to it being more difficult to find certain sections with an autio book. There's a few chapters the author goes over where she's talks about dealing with childhood experiences and how you were raised. This section was extremely helpful and made me question a lot of what I was taught as a child and what I have carried into my parenting practice. Theres references to other books but there's also a ton of examples the author gives in situations where your not sure how to apply positive parenting. I cannot express how helpful this is. I felt almost stuck when I started my positive parentinf journey because I was reading books that didnt have examples! She both addresses toddlers AND older kids. if your on the fence about reading this book or listening to it. Do it. you wont regret it. My only complaint was with the autio book the person who narrated sounded like a robot which can be annoying at times.

Just join the Facebook group. Don't buy the book.
What made the experience of listening to Positive Parenting the most enjoyable?
There are some good tips and reminders to enjoy this "longest shortest time" with your toddler and give them some slack. I am also a member of the Facebook group and all of this information is there.
What didn’t you like about Callie Beaulieu’s performance?
Siri would have done a better job reading this. Callie sounds like a computer robot and I can't stand listening to her read this. HORRIBLE.

Good book but not audiobook
This book isn't ideal as an audiobook because it is workbook/discussion style. The narrator's voice is very dull and listening to get gets tiring quickly. The content is worthwhile so I'll get the book.
