Did not disappoint

These were difficult words because the book ranges from San-people to upper British, yet Sean Barrett reads in such a way that you know who is speaking. Plat Afrikaner, Fanigalo (in the mines), German lady and more. Well done Sean, you did not disappoint

Heroic story

The first half was everything you could want in an epic tale. Our heroine triumphs over her adversities in a harsh and unique environment. Her two sons are opposites in everything except their exceptional talents. The politics in the second half is what drives this second half of the story and in his usual way our author fills the pages with insight and knowledge. The history of the time and place seems infallible with the entertainments, sports and popular beliefs of that period used with skill. My only objection was his portrayal of women. Although our main female character achieves tremendous success the author is inconsistent with her character and her personality although I loved it!

A Wilbur Smith Masterpiece

What a great story and you get a history lesson too! These early books by the author are much better than the recent ones.
