About this listen

Though a small town at heart, Lawrenceton, Georgia, has its dark side - and its crime buffs. One of them is librarian Aurora "Roe" Teagarden, a member of the Real Murders Club, which meets once a month to analyze famous cases. It's a harmless pastime - until the night she finds a member killed in a manner that eerily resembles the crime the club was about to discuss.

As other brutal "copycat" killings follow, Roe will have to uncover the person behind the terrifying game, one that casts all the members of Real Murders, herself included, as prime suspects - or potential victims.

What the critics say

"An ingenious plot and sufficient flow of blood keep the pages flying....Harris draws the guilty and the innocent into an engrossing tale while inventing a heroine as capable and potentially complex as P. D. James's Cordelia Gray." ( Publishers Weekly)

Charlaine Harris has a particular style that’s cute and sweet, with naive-sounding heroines that rise to the occasion when both danger and romance abound. Therese Plummer was a great narrator and this was a fun mystery.

Fun little mystery

I'm not generally a mystery reader, but this was a good story. mysterious and intriguing.

Fun Read!

Interesting, still with the trite 'woman with two competing beaus' storyline that Harris uses a lot, but nonetheless good.

I like this better than her Sookie Stackhouse ones

Unfortunately, I didn’t get anywhere near the second chapter of the book because of the narration. The narrator seems to not have reviewed the book previously and made these awkward, unnecessary and overly long pauses between and in the middle of sentences. At first I thought it was just a glitch but then it kept on happening, almost like they paused the recording but didn’t pause it fast enough, so when they resumed recording, there is a long pause that makes listening disjointed.

Horrible narration
