À propos de cet audio

“Stephenson has a once-in-a-generation gift: he makes complex ideas clear, and he makes them funny, heartbreaking, and thrilling.” - Time

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Anathem, Neal Stephenson is continually rocking the literary world with his brazen and brilliant fictional creations - whether he’s reimagining the past (The Baroque Cycle), inventing the future (Snow Crash), or both (Cryptonomicon). With Reamde, this visionary author whose mind-stretching fiction has been enthusiastically compared to the work of Thomas Pynchon, Don DeLillo, Kurt Vonnegut, and David Foster Wallace - not to mention William Gibson and Michael Crichton - once again blazes new ground with a high-stakes thriller that will enthrall his loyal audience, science and science fiction, and espionage fiction fans equally. The breathtaking tale of a wealthy tech entrepreneur caught in the very real crossfire of his own online fantasy war game, Reamde is a new high - and a new world - for the remarkable Neal Stephenson.

Ce que les critiques en disent

“Stephenson...delivers a sprawling thriller that shows him in complete control of his story.” (Publishers Weekly)

“Noir futurist Stephenson returns to cyberia with this fast-moving though sprawling techno-thriller...Who’ll prevail? We don’t know till the very end, thanks to Stephenson’s knife-sharp skills as a storyteller. An intriguing yarn—most geeky, and full of satisfying mayhem.” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

“Sometimes when you’re reading Neal Stephenson, he doesn’t just seem like one of the best novelists writing in English right now; he seems like the

only one.” (Lev Grossman, Time)

It always surprises and frustrates me when a narrator struggles with fairly common words. Having watched movies and read books, taking on a project like this, you would think a person might put some effort towards comprehension and pronunciation...just saying

Really Long.

Loved this book. I have a paper copy that I just couldn't get *into* so I thought I'd try the audible version. I'm very pleased! This is an author I really enjoy and the performance was really immersive. I meant to just listen to it at work but I had to binge the last few hours during an off day because I couldn't wait to hear the ending!

awesome book

It's a big book, but so exciting, clever, engaging, well written and well read that it almost felt too short.

Absolutely loved this book. The perfect combination of global spy adventures, video game geekdom, and lovable characters. Could not stop listening.

I am unsure how to classify this Neal Stephenson tale: 'Reamde' has elements of Technothriller, Espionage/Spy Fiction, GameLit Fantasy, Crime Thriller, and more than a little Military Combat-Action. He starts with an online virus/crypto-type scheme and adds Chinese spies working in Canada, Russian Mafia, and Jihadists. The narrative reminded me of James Hunter, Robert Ludlum, Dean Koontz, and Clive Cussler repeatedly.. without being derivative of any of them. Stephenson's tale is unapologetically action-heavy (including some striking violence).. but also has readers contemplating cultural, philosophical, and even political themes. The novel really caught my attention.
To be sure, Stephenson overwrites the book and is too intellectual at times - tending to overly cerebral - borderline pretentious - plot lines - but the imaginative twisty-turny tale (almost "stream-of-consciousness" unpredictable) is well worth a listen. It's fun to watch Stephenson exercise his writing chops on everything from romantic comedy to tactical gun battles.

As to presentation: Brilliance Audio Inc. does the book credit - casting Malcolm Hillgartner to read the book and offering exemplary technical support. Hillgartner's Russian accents are occasionally cartoonish and his Arabic is dreadful, but the product is eminently listenable.

Altogether, this audiobook merits 8 .5 stars out of 10. It has something to offer for anyone with an eclectic reading taste. Spend the Credit.

[Note: I guarantee Stephenson pulled out a set of percentile dice and rolled up '95-92' to come up with a name for his fictional RPG gaming corporation.. the nerd]

Engrossing Genre-bending Story

Really wasn't sure where Stephenson was going with this title at first but I was pleasantly surprised by how much rich imagery came up along the way. It was very clever to splice spy thriller with an array of digital trends into one narrative.

Malcom Hillgartner had a great vocal presence as well, would consider his other projects next based on his narration alone.

On to the next story! #Audible1
