Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of the Gray Man series comes a startlingly realistic novel of World War III.

A desperate Kremlin takes advantage of a military crisis in Asia to simultaneously strike into Western Europe and invade east Africa in a bid to occupy three rare Earth mineral mines that will give Russia unprecedented control over the world's hi-tech sector for generations to come.

Pitted against the Russians are a Marine lieutenant colonel pulled out of a cushy Pentagon job, a French Special Forces captain and his intelligence operative father, a young Polish partisan fighter, an A-10 Warthog pilot, and the commander of an American tank platoon who, along with his German counterpart, fight from behind enemy lines.

Through grand land, sea, and air battles to a small unit fighting hand-to-hand in the jungle, Russia and the US face off in a terrifying but thrilling battle for world dominance - with constant the threat of a Russian nuclear detonation ever present.

Got me hooked on audio books!

The story and performance was so much more then I was expecting! The Lieutenant Colonel made the book come to life way better then I feel a movie could!

Good escape novel.

Although I thought it was a bit cliched, with some predictable outcomes, I still found it engaging and enjoyable. There is still suspense, some surprises, and characters you will feel for.

Riveting Story

I was always a huge fan of Tom Clancy and have missed his work since his untimely death. I have been searching for something else of that calibre ever since. I definitely found it. Mr. Greaney is an excellent writer and I have finally found a worthy successor to Mr. Clancy in my book collection. The story was fast paced and the performance of the narrator was excellent.

Fantastic

A must listen for those looking for something to check out instead of Red Storm Rising for the umpteenth time. I wish I had found this sooner.

Best military thriller since Red Storm Rising

I loved this book. Have been a big fan of Greaney for a while with the Gray Man series and Clancy's Jack Ryan books. This is a terrific yarn with a big cast of characters; Marine LtCol, tank regiment Cmdr, A10 & Apache helo pilots, a Polish reserve girl who comes into her own under fire, US submarine commander and several Russian army baddies. Extremely well plotted and realistic, by the end I could not put it down. It's a long story - over 20 hours on audible but kept me riveted throughout. Narrator was excellent.

a lot like Tom Clancy

the story started out with a lot of hype and politics, very much like a Tom Clancy novel, but it certainly got going about half way through!
not quite what I'm used to from Mark Greaney.

Great performance

I thought the performance was great, but the story was sub-par. It didn’t hook me at all, and some of the characters were so cliched I would roll my eyes.
Too bad, as I enjoyed Mark Greaneys story’s before.
