The year is 2380. The Intersolar Commonwealth, a sphere of stars some 400 light-years in diameter, contains more than 600 worlds, interconnected by a web of transport "tunnels" known as wormholes. At the farthest edge of the Commonwealth, astronomer Dudley Bose observes the impossible: Over 1,000 light-years away, a star...vanishes. It does not go supernova. It does not collapse into a black hole. It simply disappears.

This first novel in The Deptford Trilogy introduces Ramsay, a man who returns from World War I decorated with the Victoria Cross but who is destined to be caught in a no man's land where memory, history, and myth collide. As we hear Ramsey tell his story, we begin to realize that, from childhood, he has influenced those around him in a perhaps mystical, perhaps pernicious way.

Awesome Sequel to Revelation Space
I was a little put off that Audible made it seem like Chasm City was a sequel, but THIS is the real sequel to Revelation Space. I enjoyed it throughout.

Neat story, poor performance
I love Alistair Reynolds, and this series. however, this book feels like a support story, meant to close some story lines from previous books and lay the groundwork for the next books. still, I gave this book 4/5, because it's still a good book, and interesting lore if you're a fan of this writer or this universe.
I've never been a fan of John Lee's performances, but this performance was the flattest so far. I almost returned the book in the first chapter due to falling asleep multiple times.
