Publisher's Summary

You're not going home. You're not going anywhere. You're mine now.

Growing up in a deeply troubled family, 15-year-old Anna felt lost and alone in the world. So when a friendly taxi driver befriended her, Anna welcomed the attention, and agreed to go home with him to meet his family. She wouldn't escape for over a decade.

Held captive by a sadistic pedophile, Anna was subjected to despicable levels of sexual abuse and torture. The unrelenting violence and degradation resulted in numerous miscarriages, and the birth of four babies.... each one stolen away from Anna at birth.

Her salvation arrived 13 years too late, but despite her shattered mind and body, Anna finally managed to flee. This is her harrowing, yet uplifting, true story of survival.

Contains mature themes.

Disappointed

The story told in Secret Slave is horrific. It is listed as a true story. Perhaps there may be true elements in i, however, I am doubtful. There are so many statements made that make absolutely no sense!

Unbelievable

This story was the most horrific thing I have ever heard of. The life that Anna Ruston was forced to endure for so many years was so hard to hear. It made me so sad for her. The story was well told. It's hard to believe that such evil exists out there. I am glad that she was able to finally get away and tell her story to the world.

Sad & scary

This story is so sad & terrifying. The torture she endured is unbelievable, what’s more unbelievable is that she is here to tell her story! As I started this book I stopped many times feeling that I could not hear anymore of it. I just had to know her ending, I had to finish it to find out if she escaped.

Heartbreaking story... couldn’t stop to find out how she got out!

I didn’t know anything about that story... I cannot believe that so many people didn’t take action sooner when they saw her...

The story as itself is horrible, it is awful to think that she went through all that but I couldn’t stop listening to know how she got out and what happened to her next.

I wish her the best for the rest of her life!

Faye Adele gives « Anna » a voice and she is doing a fantastic job. We could here the cries in her reading and that gaves me the chills.

One of the best audible books I have listen too.

HARD TO BELIEVE

Agree with some other readers in that the level and graphic detail of abuse seems to be aimed at those seeking prurient thrills.
Cant believe that a girl subjected to , for example, the bottle brush activity would be able to document in such graphic detail.

I had to stop listening several times to avoid nausea.
only when I read that others were doubting the validity of the story did I confirm my suspicions that this novel was fiction.
An internet search failed to turn up the identity of Anna nor anything proving that this 13 year ordeal actually happened!

Im sorry I spent the money on this listen!

Powerful and horrific

First off - Shame on the comments not believing this story. How dare you question a victim of sexual, physical and mental abuse and kidnapping.
I’m sorry for all this human being endured.
I ripped through this audiobook and no time.
There were parts I contemplated not finishing the book as the horrors she experienced were so difficult to listen to.
But I did. It is a powerful story about the human spirit. I’m thankful that she is now free. I pray for her healing journey. And I pray that one day she can stand up to the monsters who are responsible for her abuse and suffering.
Whatever your real name is - you are a special human being who didn’t deserve any of this. I pray for you to find some peace and joy. ❤️🌿

Sad, Infuriating and Disturbing

You want to listen but it's hard because it's so difficult to hear what she went through. After finishing all I want to do is Google what happened to Malik and how Anna is doing. Thank you to Anna for sharing this horrific tale. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to put this into writing but I'm glad you did so maybe sharing your story might prevent this from happening to someone else.

Vivid

Shame on some of the other reviewers for not believing her story!! The worst thing you can do to someone who has been abused is not believe them. This just gives more power to the abuser. It makes it even more difficult for the abused to tell their story. No wonder she doesn't want to use her real name if other people aren't going to help her! As someone who has been in an abusive, controlling and manipulative relationship, I understand how she didn't tell anyone what was happening to her. When they have that much control over you, you don't know who you can trust and you fear for your life, so of course you're too scared to tell.

The book does go into deep detail. It is difficult to listen to.

The narrator's 'accent' is pretty bad, but still adds a certain amount of depth to the story

It made me giddy that she actually ended up with Jamie and that they are happy and had their own children. I cried tears of joy for her. May 'Anna' have every happiness in the world from now on.

Enraging

To think what people are capable of doing to other people, especially children. I hope one day him and his family are made to face justice for what they did.

The book is well read but not for the faint of heart.

Interesting

Well done but her story is one of the hardest and most graphic I’ve ever listened to. This book could be triggering to many. Anna’s story is an inspiration and the fact that she escaped such a monster is a testament to her strength.

Incredible story!

This very sad true story is hard to read; not because of the writing, but instead the story content. I can’t imagine how someone’s lives a “normal” life after enduring such torture.

Kept me on edge

This true story kept me on the edge of my set from beginning to end. She shared the greatest amount of detail. Horrible nightmare was her reality, 13 years. My heart goes out to her. I wanted to go through the story and strangle that intire clan full of evil demented people.

I cried for her, and prayed throughout the story. None of what happened to you Darling was your fault. I will continue to be praying for you, an pray that you gain the strength to bring your abuser to justice! God Bless you, Darling!

So unrealistic

I have read a lot of true stories. This one seems so far-fetched I have a very hard time believing most of it. There were way too many inconsistencies and questions left, and not one person to corroborate anything at all. (The one social worker who saved her was fired and is not allowed to speak with her, even at her new job?)
The writer seems to fixate so much on graphic rape and violence to the point of monotony. This is why I'm a little perplexed as too why I have seen so many five star reviews of this book!

Nauciatingly graphic and powerful

it is utmost insane that anyone has been forced to live through such vile and horrible events. listening to it made me sick to the gut and I could not finish the book. I am so so sorry that this is a true story. I wish all the best to the author.

Why wouldn't you?

the story keeps your attention the fact that this is based on a true story and she never went to the police when she was free is the reason I've gave it a four-star because that's the least she could have done so that other girls did not fall in the hands of this monster.

Thank you

This is a letter to Anna. Your story broke my heart. I wanted to hug 15 year old you and save you from all that evil. Im sorry you went through the worst hells at the hands of terrible pieces of waste. Thank you for sharing your story . I know it wasn’t easy. I hope you continue to heal . The narrator was amazing . I felt the anguish and pain in her narration .

Tragic story

Tragic and horrific story! The book was very graphic and sad! With that being said it was a book I couldn’t stop listening to. People need to hear these stories and be aware of things like this that go on. It took one nurse to notice small things and realize this person needed help.

Epic account of abuse and survival

Powerful story of a kidnapped girl's survival. A wake up call to all medical professionals and police about signs to look for as to when to interviene. Hard to listen to due to content, but very necessary. I doubt few girls would have been as strong as Anna was.
