Publisher's Summary

You're not going home. You're not going anywhere. You're mine now.

Growing up in a deeply troubled family, 15-year-old Anna felt lost and alone in the world. So when a friendly taxi driver befriended her, Anna welcomed the attention, and agreed to go home with him to meet his family. She wouldn't escape for over a decade.

Held captive by a sadistic pedophile, Anna was subjected to despicable levels of sexual abuse and torture. The unrelenting violence and degradation resulted in numerous miscarriages, and the birth of four babies.... each one stolen away from Anna at birth.

Her salvation arrived 13 years too late, but despite her shattered mind and body, Anna finally managed to flee. This is her harrowing, yet uplifting, true story of survival.

Contains mature themes.

Unbelievable

This story was the most horrific thing I have ever heard of. The life that Anna Ruston was forced to endure for so many years was so hard to hear. It made me so sad for her. The story was well told. It's hard to believe that such evil exists out there. I am glad that she was able to finally get away and tell her story to the world.

Disturbing

Anna’s story is the most disturbing memoir I have listened to. At one point I didn’t think I could finish listening to her story. I couldn’t take any more of her torture. My heart bled for her and what happened to her during 13 years a captive angered me, but I needed to hear she was able to escape.
The story of her nana’s love and how that love became her salvation through the terror.
The performance was excellent. Clearly expressing the emotions of love, hate and fear.
Like Anna, I hope to numb myself of her story so it does not haunt my dreams.

Not for the faint of heart

This was the hardest book I have ever listened too. It made me angry to the point of gritting my teeth. The author did an exellent job with her descriptions but it is very graphic. I'm not sure if I would ever be able to listen to it again. I couldn't stop listening till it was over though. I had to know what would happen.

This book should be a best seller! Very well written

I found this a difficult audio to listen to when the writer described the brutality she endured. But I was blown away by the resilience and the reserves of strength that she was able to continually dig into, i found it almost impossible to put down, the suspense is so high at times!! Very well written.

First book I have ever read start to finish without stopping. To be honest, it's the first book I have ever read... Real page Turner.

What a fighter!

Anna is an amazing women and such a fighter. This book had in on my seat many times. It’s beautifully written and I can see the sadness in the words. I was so happy when she started running for the black car I kept saying out loud... run Anna!! Great book! Thank you for sharing your story!

Incredible story!

This very sad true story is hard to read; not because of the writing, but instead the story content. I can’t imagine how someone’s lives a “normal” life after enduring such torture.

I just cannot begin to explain what a harrowing life this woman has lead and to be able to write about it in such an amazing strong way. Thank you Anna for hanging on!

Heartbreaking and Angering

How this sweet 15 year old was taken and held hostage, abused and raped over and over and over again and nobody thought to look for her is appalling... equally appalling is that no one in the medical system cared enough to make sure she was safe. I hope these gross pedophiles are in prison, being assaulted every day and then when they die, I hope they are assaulted and raped for an eternity. Happy she escaped, but 13 years of torture is too much for one person to endure. Heartbreaking.

Moving and incredible

Few words suffice to underscore the depth, wisdom, and courage put forth by this author in her book. It is difficult to imagine a life filled with such fear and pain which is why her narrative is so important to acknowledge and understand for what it is. I highly recommend!

Awful story, feel so bad for her

Should of been shorter. Too many repeated abuse stories. Wish the ending would of had the attacker and family arrested.

Thirteen years in hell

This story sounds too awful to believe. It is difficult to believe that people can be so depraved that they would subject another human being to the pain and horrible treatment this young lady underwent. How she survived shows the indomitable strength of the human spirit. I have listened to this story fifteen or twenty times and still wonder how she survived.

If you can get through the very graphic abuse

After the first chapter, I turned the volume down each time the main character was being raped or abused. It was too much for me. I can't understand how anyone can be so cruel and it made me very angry.
This story captures the tragic life of a vulnerable young girl who is abducted by a sadistic predator who preys on her because she is alone. Being a mere child, she does everything in order to survive and nothing to escape while given many chances. No matter what she endures, rapes, abuse, being a baby making factory . After 13 years she finally escapes, burdened for her it seems, with the trauma of what happened to her.
