Publisher's Summary

Sure, being one of the deadliest assassins in the galaxy had its perks, but even the mightiest warrior could have a bad day. In this case, it was looking to be enough of them to fill an entire calendar.

It seemed the unthinkable had happened. Someone had actually targeted the Ghalian, an order of assassins known and feared across the systems. It was madness. Only a fool would go after the likes of them. But, it seemed, the galaxy had no shortage of fools.

Retaliation most bloody was in order, and one man stood ready to spring into action. Hozark was his name, and he was no ordinary man. He was a Master Ghalian, an assassin skilled in the ways of death. Practical, mechanical, magical, to him it made no difference. One way or another, he would get to the bottom of the attack and turn the tables on whoever dared strike out at his brothers and sisters.

Or so he thought until someone quite unexpected reared their head. An appearance that gave him pause. Someone he had thought long dead. His former lover. A revelation like that could throw even a master assassin for a loop. That she too was an assassin only complicated things more.

There was far more at play than was apparent on the surface, and Hozark would require all of his wits and skill to get to the bottom of it. And he most surely intended to do just that, no matter how high the body count. He just hoped to do so before more of his kin fell victim to the nefarious plot.

A sci-fantasy adventure across space, with magic, starships, sword battles, treachery, deadly beasts, and, of course, a healthy dose of snark and sarcasm.

Dull

Before you consider this title be aware that it has nothing to do with science fiction. Everything is accomplished with magic. There are no modern weapons, computers, vehicles, aircraft or anything. Everyone fights with swords and/or magic.

This is the most dull story I've listened to in a very long time. For most of each book they're just wandering around looking for somebody. The search consists of trying to blend in, getting everyone drunk and asking questions. Then the characters get a clue and they're off to another planet to do the same thing all over again. Finally at some point you get to a battle which lasts one maybe two lines of text.

All of the proper names are terrible. Like the author couldn't be bothered terrible. Words and parts of words mashed together for somebody's name. A table and a car. I'll name him Tabcar.

the reader is kinda monolog but it fits

grate story if you like Sci fi and magic it's a good combo everything is done with magic with is different but well done and seemless in this world. the reader is molog but it fits the stowic assasins flawlessly. the ending is 10/10 and fits the story and also ties up all the loose end. grate series and an amazing value for 1 credit

Frustrating and wonderful

Well worth a listen. Great story and great narration to match. From the mid point the story becomes Frustrating but in the best of ways.

A perfect blend!

I wasn’t expecting a whole lot given the somewhat eccentric title but I was so pleasantly wrong. I found myself attached to characters and wondering about their personalities more so than many mainstream fantasy books. Very much worth the listen and you’ll wish for one more adventure when you finish!!

Good Fluff and the Price is Right

Overall the story contained some plot holes and predictable outcomes, but was generally a decent listen. The narrator was not great with accents, but did well differentiating between characters and genders. One credit for five books made it palatable, and it occupied my time driving decently.

it was ok

Too much "tell" not enough "show". Because of all the tell, the story felt quite flat. So, they find a clue, jump to the planet, look around, find another clue and jump to the next location. Maybe a paragraph of 2-dimentional fighting, but then they're off again, and again, and again and ... the story arch gets very repetitious after the 30'th jump or so. The saving grace to the overall plot are the characters. They all had believable and enjoyable voices of their own. Good development and I very much enjoyed the Slice-Of-Life the author presented.

3.5 stars... Nothing Extraordinary

It was predictable and very repetitive, but also had some nice heartwarming scenes and a few laughs. Narrator was also nothing of note, kinda bad at doing different voices.

Overall, nothing great. If it didn't have all 5 books in one, it wouldn't have been worth the credit. but since it did with a nice 50+ hrs, I felt I got my credit worth.

Would have to depend upon the person if I would recommend.

Repetitive and predictable

Very repetitive and the ending was obvious by the second book. Is Hozark a dangerous assassin? It was mentioned more than a few times...

Assassin's Creed in Spelljammer

The title of this review is essentially the review. This series is Assassin's Creed in Spelljammer (space D&D) with a nice sprinkling of Agent 47s disguise abilities.

If that alone hasn't sold you on this series, then you're probably not going to like it, but if it has sold you, then go read it.

This series knows what it is. It's a roller coaster. You can often see the twists and turns coming, but they're still fun. The world is explained as it is explored, with no major exposition dumps. It's full of tropes but fully leans into them to great effect.

The pace is brisk, things happen and keep happening, and yet it never feels rushed. It spends just enough time to tell what it needs and never lingers too long. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended.
