À propos de cet audio

When old secrets catch fire, everything will burn.

In a mortal world colonized by the gods and ruled over by their cruel offspring, the Descended, Diem Bellator yearns to escape the insular life of her poor village.

Her mother's sudden disappearance—and the discovery of a dangerous secret about her past—offer Diem an unexpected opportunity to enter the dark world of Descended royalty and unlock the web of mysteries her mother left behind.

With the dying king's handsome, mysterious heir watching her every move and a ruthless mortal alliance recruiting her to join the growing civil war, Diem will have to navigate the unwritten rules of love, power, and politics in order to save her family—and all of mortal kind.

Spark of the Everflame is the first book in The Kindred's Curse Saga, a four-book epic fantasy romance series that follows our feisty, bad*ss heroine Diem Bellator in her fight against injustice and oppression, her struggle to survive in a royal palace full of betrayal and intrigue, and her journey of self-discovery and finding true love. This slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers series is perfect for fans of unique magic systems, dragons and other mythical creatures, angst and romantic tension, and hilarious banter.

Great read

Enjoyed the fantasy, typical angst, forbidden love and magic. Liked the expressive voice. Burnt through quickly on a work trip making it significantly more bearable.

Vivid story weaving

An exciting fantasy set in a rich world with layered characters, complex relationships, and a gripping plot, SPARK OF THE EVERFLAME was an adventure I readily enjoyed and want more of.

Diem is a healer working in a realm that is ruled by cruel demigods, and her life is forever altered when she is accepted into their ranks. On entering the world of the Descended however, Diem quickly realizes that her mortal family and friends are hiding secrets that could reshape the world as she knows it.

Diem is fantastic. She’s tough, compassionate, outspoken, and willing to put her life on the line if it means saving those she cares about. I immediately fell i love with her, and truly, found all of the characters to be realistic and interesting. No one is all bad or all good and their motivations are understandable. The romance is definitely slow burn and will grow to be complicated, but what I most loved were the relationships Diem had with her family and her friends, both old and new.

The world building is immersive and easy to follow, allowing for greater connection to the characters. The pacing is solid and the action scenes are well structured. The prose is also very good, allowing for a story that I could easily get lost in.

The ending is a little abrupt and luckily I have the next book in hand, because I am eager to see what happens next!

Immersive Fantasy

I loved this story so far and I do enjoy a slower book to really set the scene, however, I find the main character Diem pretty immature and a bit on the naive side which took away from the story a bit for me. I understand the drama needed to create a good story but I found her making poor decisions that were so obvious she shouldn’t make them! Definitely going to listen to the whole saga though, it wasn’t enough irritation to deter me

Love the story but dislike the main character a bit

I absolutely treasured this book and the 2 books following this. An epic journey from a simple life to Royalty. I highly recommend reading this book and the following two books in the series. After a search for the 4th installment of this series I will be patiently waiting until 2026.

This book is the first in the series, and offered such rich story telling. It is action packed like others in this genre, but the world building was approachable and still vivid. The main character is funny, likeable, and while dealing with complicated emotions, her decisions are understandable to the reader. It is smouldering with sexual tension and provides so many unexpected twists, while also satisfying some of the tropes of the genre. I can’t wait to see where this series goes!!!

Way better than that faerie book

Spark of the Everflame is a must read if you enjoy romantasy, tension, politics, magic and the following tropes:
- Enemies to Lovers
- Slow Burn
- Sassy Banter
- Fiery MFC
- Broody MMC
- Touch Her & Die

Diem, the MFC, is a mortal healer who is intelligent, passionate, snarky and cares deeply for her family. Despite this, as we get to know her, we discover that she has flaws and struggles with loss, grief, mediocrity and the decisions she has made, which made me connect with her even more. There were also several moments throughout the book where Diem was pulling total Aelin vibes and let me tell you, I was HERE FOR IT!

"You're mortal, remember? Your body is too fragile."

"First of all, if you ever call me fragile again, I'll slice your precious royal balls off and shove them down your throat."

Luther is a Descended (the cruel offspring of the Gods), is a brooding, grumpy MMC who is expected to take the throne when the current King (his uncle) passes. We may also be looking at another “Shadow Daddy” MMC but I’m hoping the next book elaborates further.

From the moment Luther and Diem meet, the energy and tension become apparent but Penn Cole draws out the slow burn like an expert in this book. I loved a few of the glimpses we get into what the future might hold and the electricity that grows as Diem and Luther interact and get to know each other. I’m usually a die-hard for forced proximity with my enemies to lovers storylines but I think the author does a phenomenal job of creating multiple opportunities for the main characters to interact and collaborate, without making it a total forced proximity situation. I ate it up regardless! I especially enjoyed the scene with the building fire and the sacrifice Diem makes to try and save descended lives! I felt like I couldn’t breathe the entire time and balled during the scene where Luther and Diem have a palm over their hearts.

I found the world building intriguing but felt that I didn’t have a strong grasp on the magic system by the end of the book. I do think that was intentional, as I feel like this book is more about Diem and her evolution and I look forward to seeing how things are drawn out in the next book(s). I did find a few of the plot twists predictable, but I honestly was enjoying the storyline so much I didn’t care.

For Romantasy & Slow Burn Lovers!
