Publisher's Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian return in this essential novel set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The Empire is dead. Nearly two decades after the Battle of Endor, the tattered remnants of Palpatine’s forces have fled to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. But for the heroes of the New Republic, danger and loss are ever-present companions, even in this newly forged era of peace.

Jedi Master Luke Skywalker is haunted by visions of the dark side, foretelling an ominous secret growing somewhere in the depths of space, on a dead world called Exegol. The disturbance in the Force is undeniable . . . and Luke’s worst fears are confirmed when his old friend Lando Calrissian comes to him with reports of a new Sith menace.

After Lando’s daughter was stolen from his arms, he searched the stars for any trace of his lost child. But every new rumor leads only to dead ends and fading hopes—until he crosses paths with Ochi of Bestoon, a Sith assassin tasked with kidnapping a young girl.

Ochi’s true motives remain shrouded to Luke and Lando. For on a junkyard moon, a mysterious envoy of the Sith Eternal has bequeathed a sacred blade to the assassin, promising that it will answer the questions that have haunted him since the Empire fell. In exchange, he must complete a final mission: Return to Exegol with the key to the Sith’s glorious rebirth—Rey, the granddaughter of Darth Sidious himself.

As Ochi hunts Rey and her parents to the edge of the galaxy, Luke and Lando race into the mystery of the Sith’s lingering shadow and aid a young family running for their lives.

Great filler between epi 6 and 7

Without giving away much this is a great story filling in the gaps with the original episodes end (episode 6). And the new stories with Rey and Ben... Great performances and riveting stories

I have a good feeling about this

Should have been Episode 7!

Really enjoyed this. Trying to figure out though if this was simply written in an attempt to fix the holes/ issues/ unexplained theories in the sequel trilogy. Many of the gaps we wanted filled after Return of the Jedi and before the Force Awakens get filled. Some of the stretched story lines of the sequel trilogy also get some much needed background. Maybe not to everyone's satisfaction but all readers and fans get more clarity as a result of this offering.

We are missing some of the original gang but Grand Master Luke and his new temple as well as the primaries of the sequel trilogy, Ben and Rey gives us more than enough to carry the story. Some new, interesting characters as well in Komat, Kiza, new Sith Lord and more background on Ochie of Bestoon. The production value is out of this galaxy as are most Star Wars audiobooks.

Opinion and Slight Spoiler!

If Luke was looking for Rey and her family, In my opinion. the better outcome would have been for Luke to find her and take her back to his temple for training and to meet Ben. The rest could have developed similarly. This book made movie would have been an amazing tie in and linked the films not to mention given Luke Skywalker more of the character arc he deserved. Tying in Anakin to boot would have been solid Beskar!

Side note, I don't think I heard "May the Force be with you" once in the book? Little weird no? Plenty of bad feelings about something though. That always makes me chuckle...

Happy listening, May the Force be with you! ;)

Filling in the blanks

The story itself is awesome. Filling in the blanks after ROTJ and before TFA. The narration is awesome and the voice acting is superb. Excellent.

The beginning of the sequel trilogy redemption?

As someone whose opinion of the prequels was dramatically changed after consuming all of the content in between movies such as comics, novels, and animated series (Especially the Clone Wars), I have remained hopeful that my opinion of the sequels could be changed over time. This novel seems like that redemption has begun, and has actually motivated me to finally give the sequels another watch with a fresh eye instead of frustration and disappointment. I'm excited to see what comes next.

Finally a Star Wars novel that matters.

Well written with fun and adventure, and finally a core group of characters we care about instead of two dozen unknown characters that we can’t keep track of and don’t care about.

Also, excellent narration and voices without over acting.

Hope to see this author and narrator back for many future projects.

Vocalist and sound effects add life to an average story

Star Wars books always sound amazing in audio books and this was no different. Really enjoyable effects and imitations. The story however was very repetitive with a major plot hole and missed opportunity to explain how the knife came to be. Otherwise it did fill some of the gaps from ROSW and I’m grateful that Lucasfilm and the writer took their time to create this for us.

Yes

Solid, liking the other new series, but this ties in familiar characters and the 'main story', thanks a&w

mission impossible

making a good prequel story from a crapy movie was mission impossible... and they failed to do so.
