Finkel delivers an outstanding account of Breitweiser’s life and thefts through thorough research. I also throughly enjoyed the narration by Ballerini, who read the book in a captivating way with wonderful cliffhangers and dramatic pauses.

I finished the book and wished there were 10 more chapters. 10/10

It is said that most art thieves don’t care about the art they steal - they do it for the money they believe they can make - not so for this man. He loved art and loved the pieces he stole. It all started “innocently” enough, stealing one painting to hang in his home, to gaze at and appreciate. But it was a point of no return for him… he couldn’t not take another, then another. Blatantly stealing art from museums, often practically under the eyes of curators, became his obsession. And living in Europe, there were so many museums, so easy to get to. He’d go out for a Sunday drive…. and come home with art. While I don’t sympathize with him at all, I was fascinated by how he did it, and how it all fell apart. And, sadly, what became of some of that art.
