Publisher's Summary

We're all struggling to find time in our lives, but somehow there's never enough to go around. We're too tired to think, too wired to focus, less efficient than we want to be, and guilty about not getting enough time with our loved ones.

We all know that we feel starved for time, but what are we actually doing about it? Precious little. In The Art of Stopping Time, New York Times best-selling author Pedram Shojai guides us toward success with what he calls time prosperity - having the time to accomplish what you want in life without feeling compressed, stressed, overburdened, or hurried.

So how do we achieve this time prosperity? We learn to stop time. To do that, Shojai walks us though a 100-day gong, which is based on the Chinese practice of designating an amount of time each day to perform a specific task. The ritual helps you become mindful, train your mind, instill new habits, and fundamentally transform your relationship with time. We can find moments of mental awareness while in the shower, eating a snack, listening to podcasts, and even binge-watching our favorite TV shows.

He shares how to use gongs to reprogram your habits, reduce stress, increase energy, exercise the ancient practice of mindfulness, and become a master of your time. Whether you do one per day, a bunch at a time, or listen to the whole book in one sitting, practicing the gongs is a dedicated act of self-love that snaps us out of our daily trance and brings the light of awareness to our consciousness. The more we practice, the more we wake up, and the better off we are.

It's Time For A Much-Deserved Pause.

"The Art of Stopping Time" lives up to its title.

It's the kind of book you'll want to consume chunk by chunk, little by little, over the course of 100 days -- each lesson offering you an opportunity to hit "Pause" from your busy life and reflect.

Pedram "The Urban Monk" Shojai's teachings are down to earth enough to keep me engaged, and wise enough to make me grow. His work is highly needed in our hyperactive and disconnected society.

Stopping Time

A feel-good book that is more about appreciating time rather than stopping it. I feel a little more grounded, a little more appreciative, and a little more in awe of the energy that flows within and around me. I feel smaller and larger, too. Tonight, I'm going to gaze at the stars and just be. Thank you.

Probably good if you're not in tune w/yourself

First off, I found the authors continuous use of the phrase "that's fine" irritating, among a few others. It probably bugged me more than it should have.

It's mostly common sense time management and take care of yourself mixed with some spiritual ideas. I didn't learn anything I wasn't already aware of - and found it humourous that at one point he mentions if you're reading a book you don't like why not put it down and pick up one you do. haha - I'd not have finished this one, and I was hoping I'd learn something so I listened to this at 1.6 speed in audible while driving to get thru it faster. Hoped that I'd find a nugget of knowledge. There were no revelations.

This book is probably good if your already a hot mess and really need help to get back on track and learn to balance your life. There are some good points in it, it just wasn't anything I'm not already aware of. If you currently don't take time to take care of yourself, and you get caught up in all sorts of drama and stress all the time, maybe this is for you.
