About this listen

Bloomsbury presents The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

The twist of a knife. The birth of a legend.

Step into the world of the #1 bestselling Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas with this collection of prequel novellas.

Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom’s most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful Assassin’s Guild and its scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, she yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. But when Arobynn dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, Celaena finds herself acting independently of his wishes and questioning her own allegiance.

If she hopes to escape Arobynn’s clutches, Celaena will have to put her faith in her wits and her blade . . . knowing that if she fails, she’ll lose not just a chance at freedom but her life.

A prequel to the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass, this collection of five novellas explores the history of this cunning assassin and her enthralling—and deadly—world.

This was hard to get into coming from ACOTAR. I was expecting more, but I got a slog instead. I had a hard time pushing myself through the book. I have to say the end of the book is where it got interesting. Although I think it would have been better if she insulted the king, it would
Have set the story better for the future story.

What an interesting start

I just love this character and world. I listened to this book after reading the first 3 books and I think this is the best way to do it. I like getting glimpses of her past in the books and then reading this one helps fill it in better. Great listen.

I love this character

My friend recommended that I listen to this one first (the series has another 7 books) it gives background and lore for the series so listening to it first helps you enjoy it more. Throne of glass (book 1) picks up right where this one stops.

Solid voice acting (I have become picky over which audiobooks I listen to. The VA has a wide range of voices which helps differentiate the different characters.)

I enjoyed reading this for a second time, as I could really appreciate all of the foreshadowing and seemingly unimportant elements and people that will end up playing a huge role later on.

Also, I know there's a lot of debate about when to read this book. The first time through I was very happy with my choice to read it third after Crown of Midnight, and after my second time, I agree with Maas that third is perfect for Celaena's character development. It fills in some of the mystery about her history, and now we're ready to move forward.

This is my by far by favourite book from Sarah J Maas so far. I was a little apprehensive about starting this series as there is so many opinions on how to read through it. I read this first I think it's how it should be done. You fall in love with our main characters and experience all the ranges of emotion and the trials and tribulations they experience. I think I would gave struggled with getting into the next book without reading this first as it kinda just jumps into what feels like an already started story without experiencing this novel first.

My favourite!
