À propos de cet audio

Live Authentically and Function Effectively in All Areas of Your Life

In this first-of-its-kind book, Sol Smith combines current research, his personal experience as a late-diagnosed autistic adult, and lessons learned as an educator to show how you can transcend common mischaracterizations, overcome shame, and gain the skills to flourish. Sol knows that neurodivergent people often feel that nothing they have been taught relates to how they experience the world. To resolve this conflict, they try to change or mask who they are, which can cause isolation, depression, and anxiety. He advises the opposite: Understand yourself, accept yourself, and reduce conflict. Designed to help you peel away the shell of inadequacy and self-blame that often comes with neurodivergence, The Autistic’s Guide to Self-Discovery offers the necessary tools and knowledge to function effectively at home, at work, and in the wider world.

Ce que les critiques en disent

“This book touches on experiences that I could never put into words, and I cannot imagine how impactful it will be for young people or parents seeking understanding. After falling into autistic burnout myself, I am so grateful this book exists and I get to share it with my clients.”
— Savannah Archer, founder of Sav’s Life Skills (late-diagnosed female adult with autism and ADHD)

“Finally, an expert who truly gets the experience of navigating life as a neurodivergent adult in a neurotypical world! Sol Smith’s shame-busting guide isn’t about fixing who you are — it’s about understanding how your autistic brain works, recognizing and embracing your unique strengths, and discovering tailored tools and strategies to help you thrive authentically and confidently in a neurotypical world.” — Shawn C. Horn, PsyD, clinical psychologist and author of The Adult ADHD Guide to Social Success

“Sol has managed to make the entire book feel like a love letter to the autistic experience. The message is delivered with an overt kindness and gentleness, filled with the exact kind of affirming encouragement most of us need more of in our everyday life.” — Melanie Deziel, Late-Diagnosed Diaries

This book has been so incredibly helpful. The ideas put forward were logical and made sense of so many things in my life. The way it was presented was concise and easy to follow. It provided understanding but also actual steps you can take to support yourself.
I feel there's been a shift. By understanding more about what's going on with my thought process and reactions, I'm feeling hopeful, kinder to myself and feel less generalized anxiety. It's quieted my thinky box

It was so clarifying and gave me actual steps that help

In this book, Sol dives deep into the various facets of high masking autistics, in a deep, yet easily accessible way. He covers a wide range of topics, which could easily become a disjointed headache for anybody attempting to comprehend it, and yet the way he was written it, makes it all flow and easy to comprehend. Not only do I recommend this book for anyone who wants to start a journey of self discovery, but for anybody who wishes to learn more about autism. An incredible and well rounded tool, with the occasional light hearted joke thrown in as well. I love that Sol himself narrated the book as well, as it's his voice reading his words and lets you really feel the vibe of what he's trying to say at any given moment throughout the book. It's still early in the year to say this is my top book for 2025, but it is definitely a frontrunner.

A deep yet comprehensive read

This book has been so valuable in my journey through autistic burnout. Sol’s sense of humour doesn’t go unnoticed. At times I found his characterizations hilariously on point.

Click bait title. Not a guide at all and mostly anecdotal. Unfortunately, my autism won't let me leave open loops so I had to suffer through untill the end. This also seemed to read a bit like a lead magnet rather than a genuine helpful guide. Definitely would not recommend.

Not a Guide
