Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself.

Publisher's Summary
Percy Jackson isn't expecting freshman orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears on campus, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse.
In this latest installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord, Kronos, draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos' army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop the invasion, Percy and his demigod friends must set out on a quest through the Labyrinth - a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn.
Full of humor and heart-pounding action, this audiobook promises to be their most thrilling adventure yet.

It's a awesome series even as an adult reader...
but I would have rated the performance a lot higher if it weren't for the fact that Jesse Bernstein's accents were over the top. Jesse is a great narrator and I often enjoy listening to him but his accents for some of the characters were off and in particular the "Asian" accent was offensive. I state accent because he just uses one, which is poorly done and honestly Mr Yunoshi bad. In book 3 he uses the same accent for a female Asian character.
I am sure this was not done intentionally or meant to offend but I was really disappointed to listen to his attempt at a generic "Asian" accent. Unfortunately one of the characters is of Asian descent and I had to listen to the bad attempt throughout a couple of chapters. It really ruined my enjoyment of the book overall.
I usually do not write reviews but I felt as someone who is of Asian heritage, I needed to express this as there isn't a lot of representation for us in the North American mainstream. I was sadden by Jesse's attempt at portraying an Asian character.

Great Novel...Not so Great Reader
I love these novels. Unfortunately I get really irritated by the random accents and inconsistent voices between the various novels (Grovers Voice changes 3 times?). Some of his accents are even borderline offensive (some more blatantly offensive). Also, he cant pronounce basic Greek Mythological terms at times or uses those with multiple pronunciation options inconsistently. Frankly, its quite grating. It got worse with each novel...

Amazing Story with a Subpar Voice Actor.
I love this book series and I have read it many times before going for the audiobook and I have found the voice actor does not match well with the series. He has a very limited range of voices. Every male sounds either squeeky, surfer, or vaguely old. It's very hard to tell apart when two are speaking. The girls all sound very similar. The actor also puts on really stereotypical and kinda racist accents for bipoc characters especially Ethan Nakamura which was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Rick Riordan worked hard to diversify the cast as he grew as a writer and the voice actor doesn't reflect that. He also struggles greatly with conveying the proper tones characters, especially the female characters. Such as Annabeth at one points snaps at Percy but the actor says it in the same melancholy tone as he mostly plays Annabeth which for me stripped her character of a lot of her fire.
These books are one of my favourite series even now as an adult but the voice actor really doesn't carry the weight of the series.

Best book in the series
This book is so good but the voices in this reading … bruh. The deadalus voice specifically… what accent is that!! These are some of my favorite books but the reading is so ridiculous it’s hard to listen to.

ready for book 5!!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Battle of the Labyrinth: Percy Jackson, Book 4 to be better than the print version?
I guess so. I haven't read the print version so I really can't compare the two.
What did you like best about this story?
This book had to be my favorite, it had soo much going on it was great. It had all the characters and new ones that brought different excitement to the whole story line.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Grover finally found Pan
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The whole scene with Pan and Grover. and then the end scene when the guy who built the labrath finally released his soul to death..
Any additional comments?
None.

What is going on with Jesse Bernstein
The story is excellent but I cannot say the same for Jesse Bernstein’s performances in this series. He is inconsistent in his voices, his inflection is awkward most of the time, and he has a very limited range of voices he can do. This is especially prevalent in his voicing of the side character campers who all sound like Clarisse in different wigs. Other than that, his pacing is good and his voice acting for characters like Percy and Grover is decent.

Good Story, Mediocre Narration
the narrator doesn’t always seem to know what he’s reading, and is occasionally off key (emotionally). he also tends towards stereotyping the voices of non-caucasian characters; particularly asians and latinos.

What in Hades name...
Look, I love Rick Riordan’s writing, but this voice actor is no good. I can’t listen to this anymore. My plan was to get the Percy Jackson books to listen to while I did chores and stuff but he literally pronounced almost every god name wrong and it was just too irritating when they’re said over and over and over again. Are they not allowed to look up pronunciation? Who taught this person? I can’t listen anymore. 😣

Great Book, but...
It really is a good book but some of the voices just don't make any sense. Now the chapter "I Fight to the Death with my Brother" was a good chapter but Percy's brother (can't remember his name) had this little thing where at the end of every sentence would make a weird sound and that annoyed me. This may just be opinion to some people but to me (and I'm sure that the majority of you will agree with me) that's not how I imagined it. Once or twice? That's ok. Every single last sentence? Not so much.
