Incredible performance

Loved this story and the writing so much. Laughed so hard and really enjoyed the characters. The reading is phenomenal, too! Worth listening to just for that.

Very surprising!

A lot of other reviewers said it is like The Devil Wears Prada, but in only context of the fashion industry. I really enjoyed the book and the narrator did a good job with the different voices and accents. It was also nice to have a romantic novel without the sex scenes every other page. It’s has also a good message of how truthfulness can be a hinderance or allowing for further dialogue. I do hope I can more of the author’s work on Audible. I literally couldn’t put down my headphones.

An outstanding book

I absolutely loved the book when I read it. I loved the interaction between the two main characters and how hints at Elena's character were revealed. It was fun reading about their interactions and Elena's reluctant toleration of Maddie growing to an appreciation and a need. This harkens back to old black and white movies with witty banter between the two main characters. But Ms Dawe turns out to vastly enhance the book, which i didn't think possible. She perfectly conveys Maddie's emotions and provides a really humanizing portrayal of Maddie, especially her shock and embarrasment, which happens a lot in this book. She makes Maddie completely adorable and wonderful. She also makes Felicity just borderline awful, but just the right side of awfully high strung. This is one of my favorite audiobooks.

This has to be one of my all time favorites. The narration is the BEST I've heard and I've heard over a hundred books. I can't recommend this book enough. Great characters, great story.

Utter perfection!

Lee Winter + narrator Angela Dawe = Perfection. Having listened to a gazillion (actual number) audiobooks over the last year I can say without question that this is one of the best in the genre. From the writing - which is exquisite - to the fabulous characters to the performance of the material by Angela Dawe... you just can't ask for more than this. It's one of those that will keep you up until the wee hours of the morning because you just can't bear to stop listening. The humor.... Elena's bite.... Maddie's backbone... Dawe's numerous voices and accents (especially the incredibly sexy low registered voice of Elena??) O....M....G. WHY aren't more lesbian authors hiring this woman to narrate!? I've listened to all of hers in the genre more than once and need more! So much more! She and Abby Craden - the absolute best there is. *sigh*

Excellent Audio!

I loved The Brutal Truth. It's a cross between an Ice Queen romance and a falling for your boss workplace romance. I thought both main characters were very relatable. Angela Dawe does an excellent job with the narration.

Very entertaining

I haven't read The Brutal Truth before listening to this audiobook, so this was the first time I met the story. It's clearly based on The Devil Wears Prada, but it's very well written and very entertaining. And the narrator Angela Dawe was amazing with all the different accents and voices, but also with story telling - an absolute delight and this story lets her show her talent. Brilliant.

Quite enjoyable

Snappy and fun dialogue, not only between the leads, but the supporting cast too. My favorite Lee Winter book is Breaking Character. Actually, it’s one of my all time favorite books by any author. The Brutal Truth doesn’t live up to BC, however it’s still a really great book. The narration is fantastic!

I wish I had the words to tell you HOW GOOD it is

If it weren’t so late at night where I am I could probably write six sonnets about this audiobook. I first read “The Brutal Truth” on kindle and fell head over heels in stalker-like love with it. I mean, I literally read through the entire night, gave up 8 hours of precious sleep on a WORK night, because I could not put it down. It is now one of my all time favorite books. Elena and Maddie are electric. The push and pull of their relationship is the smartest, sexiest, funnest, slowest-of-the-slow-burns cat and mouse game you’ll ever see. Add a cast of fantastic secondary characters, all built into a fast-moving, sexy world of fashion journalism that is glamorous and indulgent without being overdone or silly. Lord. Literally what more do you want? DAWE. You want Angela Dawe. She is the one thing that could take such an exceptional lesfic and make it perfect, and she did. Her performance is flawless. This whole audiobook is divine. Buy it, then prepare to listen to it over and over again, because you’ll want to.

The Fashion less Australian

Maddie Gray won the green card lottery and was in New York City lost like the name of her blog, “Alien in The City.” Working the night shift at a newspaper as an obit writer and crime reporter was not keeping her spirits elevated. Then Elena Bartell buys the paper and gives them six weeks to turn the paper around. A harmless bet leads to catastrophic consequences. Now both are heartbroken and there may be no way back. A terrific performance and story of love. Recommend

Absolutey brilliant!

First, let it be said that Angela Dawe is an amazing narrator (one of the best out there) and boy did she do that book justice. Now the story itself was brilliantly written, the characters, all of them, are just amazing and well rounded. That, in my opinion, is one of the strengths of the book. Lee Winter does make us care about each one of them, be it the main ones or secondary, she makes us care about their stories, about their flaws, about their growth; not a single character is one dimensional, they have layers and it is pure delight to watch them unfold little by little. I also liked that the romance was underlying. It was slowly and properly built, to be omnipresent but never quite the center of attention. That allowed to focus on the characters and their stories making the whole book even more compelling. An amazing read I strongly recommand, it's funny, dark at times, profoundly human and I dare you not to fall for the characters or enjoy Winter's brilliant writing.
