Publisher's Summary

The international best-selling series with over five million copies sold in the US alone

For years, the Kingdom of Araluen has prospered, with the evil lord Morgarath safely behind the impassable mountains. For years, its people have felt secure. But the scheming hand of the dark lord has not been idle....

On a special mission for the rangers, Will and his friend Horace, an apprentice knight, travel to a neighboring village and discover the unsettling truth: All the villagers have either been slain or captured. Could it be that Morgarath has finally devised a plan to bring his legions over the supposedly insurmountable pass? If so, the king’s army is in imminent danger of being crushed in a fierce ambush. And Will and Horace are the only ones who can save them.

Perfect for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, T.H. White’s The Sword in the Stone, Christopher Paolini’s Eragon series, and George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Action & Adventure Throughout

This was my second time through this book and I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. More character development, more action, and more adventure. The knights duel with Morgarath was my favorite part of this book.

Fabulous Series

I have gotten absolutely hooked on these books. They are great to listen to on long drives. The narrator does an amazing job with the different voices and accents. I give him mad props for being able to do so many!

No closure

This book was actually better than the first, but it leaves the reader with a cliff hanger at the end, which I really dislike. I've read some reviews that only the first four books are available in audiobooks, so I am pulling the plug now.

Excellent. We love this author

I feel perfectly safe letting my disabled daughter listen to this author. She loves his books. She stays awake with her eyes wide opened while listening. And when I listen, I can’t put the stories down. Great talent.
