Story
Rotterham Home was a hospice for young people—a place where teenagers with terminal illnesses went to die. Nobody who checked in ever checked out. It was a place of pain and sorrow, but also, remarkably, a place of humor and adventure. Every night at twelve, a group of young guys and girls at the hospice came together to tell stories. They called themselves the Midnight Club, and their stories could be true or false, inspiring or depressing, or somewhere in-between. One night, in the middle of a particularly scary story, the teenagers make a secret pact with each other....

Story
A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: Something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting.... Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight - tooth and nail, bullet and blade - for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.

Story
A strange plague called the "Gets" is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget - small things at first, like where they left their keys... then the not-so-small things like how to drive, or the letters of the alphabet. Then their bodies forget how to function involuntarily - and there is no cure. But now, far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, deep in the Marianas Trench, an heretofore unknown substance hailed as "ambrosia" has been discovered - a universal healer, from initial reports.

Publisher's Summary
Paul Tremblay’s terrifying twist to the home invasion novel—inspiration for the upcoming major motion picture from Universal Pictures
“Tremblay’s personal best. It’s that good.”—Stephen King
Seven-year-old Wen and her parents, Eric and Andrew, are vacationing at a remote cabin on a quiet New Hampshire lake. Their closest neighbors are more than two miles in either direction along a rutted dirt road.
One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the front yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Leonard is the largest man Wen has ever seen, but he is young, friendly, and he wins her over almost instantly. Leonard and Wen talk and play until Leonard abruptly apologizes and tells Wen, “None of what’s going to happen is your fault.” Three more strangers then arrive at the cabin carrying unidentifiable, menacing objects. As Wen sprints inside to warn her parents, Leonard calls out: “Your dads won’t want to let us in, Wen. But they have to. We need your help to save the world.”
Thus begins an unbearably tense, gripping tale of paranoia, sacrifice, apocalypse, and survival that escalates to a shattering conclusion, one in which the fate of a loving family and quite possibly all of humanity are entwined. The Cabin at the End of the World is a masterpiece of terror and suspense from the fantastically fertile imagination of Paul Tremblay.
What the critics say
“A tremendous book - thought-provoking and terrifying, with tension that winds up like a chain. The Cabin at the End of the World is Tremblay’s personal best. It’s that good.” (Stephen King)
Editorial Review
American writer Paul Tremblay has brought the literary world psychological thrillers like No Sleep Till Wonderland and short stories like “The Disappearance at Devil’s Rock” and “The Little Sleep.” He is no stranger to weaving unforgettable plot twists into his gripping horror novels, and this audiobook is no exception. The Cabin at the End of the World is a fascinating take on the home invasion trope. It explores central themes like homophobia and the apocalypse with horrible and consuming perfection.
Book reviews from outlets like NPR describe this novel as the best kind of horror—so rooted in reality that it will take a long time to leave the minds of those who dive into its twists and turns. The experience of this terrifying fantasy novel is elevated to new heights in this audio version. In her performance of this maddening tale, Amy Landon takes listeners to the edge of anticipation and makes this audiobook as pause-resistant as it is spine-tingling.
A film adaptation of Paul Tremblay’s The Cabin at the End of the World from Universal Pictures was announced in 2022. The legendary M. Night Shyamalan will produce and direct the film, with actors Rupert Grint and Dave Bautista among the cast.

Excellent book marred by poor choice of Narrator
Really great story…. A little hard to process the ending, since it’s pretty vague.
The choice to use a Female narrator for a story where there’s so much male dialogue, is jarring. Her impression of Male voices is pretty bad.

Wow
This book is full of rich material. I could go on and on about the beautiful imagery mirroring and metaphor. This is a horror novel but it’s not cheap tricks and jump scares kind of horror books. Very thought provoking and stimulating. The characters are interesting and messed up at the same time. This book was unpredictable for me kept me on edge I couldn’t guess the end. I was said I was angry I was happy at some moments this book succeeded to bring all these emotions out of me.
These things are terrifying because they could happen and not far-fetched. The terrorism the hate crimes The religions and cultures that brainwash individuals beyond recognition and the stupidity of people that have the need to follow something anything no matter what it is just the feel like they belong. that part was the scariest part for me because there is some people that would do whatever it takes for their own beliefs and religions

hmmm soso
this was kind of interesting I guess... but to be honest you get the gist pretty early on and nothing new or inventive gets added to it. all it does is heap grisly descriptions on to satiate horror fans (of which I'm usually one). horror is best when it depicts graphic stuff but also adds a complete wtf sorta plot development or twist that offers mysterious potential to the rest of the story. that's what Stephen king does so well. but tremblay maps it out and nothing new happens for rest of book...
also...really didnt lile the narrator. she made every guy sound like a lumbering moron... really bad impersonation of what men sound like. she sounded like she was doing a comedy bit if how men sound. she didnt need to try and sound like a man...very weird.

Good but drawn out
The overall idea of the story was great and I did enjoy the book for the most part. The one drawback to the book is that it is VERY repetitive in certain spots and I found myself fast forwarding through them.
The narrator was good but it sometimes became confusing when she would read for the Male parts as they all sounded the same.
