Story
It’s a week before Christmas, and Louisa Graham is working 12-hour shifts at a bakery on Manhattan's Lower East Side. When a young cooking show assistant comes in from the rain and begs to buy all the cinnamon rolls on her tray, she doesn’t know what to do. Louisa is just the baker, and they aren't hers to sell. But the show burned the rolls they were supposed to film that day; so she agrees. The next morning, Louisa finds out that her cinnamon rolls were a hit, but the star of the show was allergic, and the whole crew is supposed to leave for London that afternoon. They want Louisa to step in for their annual Christmas Eve Dinner TV special at Claridge's.

Publisher's Summary
The Instant New York Times Best Seller!
“Sublime ... Colgan infuses her latest book with humor, wit, suspense and a perfectly cast love triangle.” (USA Today)
"The Christmas Bookshop is literary hot chocolate with a bourbon shot: hot, sweet but with a surprising emotional kick." (The Times (UK))
Perfect for the holidays! A brand-new heartwarming Christmas novel from the beloved New York Times best-selling author of The Bookshop on the Corner and Christmas at the Island Hotel.
Laid off from her department store job, Carmen has perilously little cash and few options. The prospect of spending Christmas with her perfect sister Sofia, in Sofia’s perfect house with her perfect children and her perfectly ordered yuppie life, does not appeal.
Frankly, Sofia doesn’t exactly want her prickly sister Carmen there, either. But Sofia has yet another baby on the way, a mother desperate to see her daughters get along, and a client who needs help revitalizing his shabby old bookshop. So Carmen moves in and takes the job.
Thrown rather suddenly into the inner workings of Mr. McCredie’s ancient bookshop on the picturesque streets of historic Edinburgh, Carmen is intrigued despite herself. The store is dusty and disorganized, but undeniably charming. Can she breathe some new life into it in time for Christmas shopping? What will happen when a famous and charismatic author takes a sudden interest in the bookshop - and Carmen? And will the Christmas spirit be enough to help heal her fractured family?

Realistic Family Drama and Intrigue at Christmas
I thought Eilidh Beaton’s narration was brilliant in how she modified her voice slightly to capture the idiosyncrasies of each character. This book was an absolute joy to listen to. Because of Eilidh’s talents, I think listening to her recite the book made it all the more enjoyable. I do not think I could have done justice to all of the characters in my head. After listening to The Christmas Bookshop, I can still hear the characters’ voices so beautifully created by Eilidh. Jenny Colgan was able to create relatable characters who continue to develop throughout her story. Her detailed descriptions transport you into the story, so that you are there on the sidelines watching everything happen. There are six degrees of separation, which Jenny manages to wrap up into one big Christmas parcel. Thank you to Jenny for this story and to Eilihd for making all of the characters so memorable.

Heartwarming and perfect to read during Christmas. Found the ‘Brazilian’ accent a bit annoying, but besides that the narrator was good.

Very Entertaining
This was my first book by Jenny Colgan and I can’t wait to enjoy more! The narration was great with only one of the voices slightly annoying but the story more than made up for it. I couldn’t put this one down and listened in record time. I highly recommend it!

Perfect Christmas Romance read
I have enjoyed all the Christmas books this author has written and this one is no exception. Loved the relationship between Mr mcreaty and Carmen the most. Only down side is I didn’t love the romantic interest. But actually didn’t feel like that was the center of this story anyway! Adorable with lots of Christmas feels!

Foreign accents were uncomfortable
I almost did not finish numerous times. In part because the story wasn't very good and I couldn't stand the main character. The other part was the narrator's foreign accents for the husband and one of the love interests. They weren't very good and made me uncomfortable.
