Story
My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart, and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying "I do" to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. It’s true what they say, mother always knows best.

Story
Our new home was supposed to be a chance to leave our past behind. But was moving here the worst mistake of our lives? All our friends and family were gathered, glasses raised to toast our fresh start. It should have been a night for happiness and celebration. Zac and I had worked so hard for this: our first home together, just minutes from the sea. But the dream quickly turned into a nightmare.

Story
Tucking her little boy Ollie into bed one night, Sarah notices his beloved teddy bear, which she bought him when he was born, is missing and in its place is a new toy given to him by her ex-husband’s new girlfriend, Laura. When she asks Ollie about it, he begins to shift uncomfortably before whispering, "Laura told me a big secret, and she said I can never tell you." Soon, Ollie is asking to spend more time with his dad and Laura, and shrinking away from Sarah. Then, when she calls to him in the garden one day, Ollie doesn’t answer back.

Story
Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

I wrap my arms around the tree trunk, pressing my cheek against it until the bark digs in and the missing poster is finally secured. I try not to look at the photograph on it. At the features so similar to mine. Perhaps this will be the year someone comes forward. Were crucial mistakes made by detectives from the very beginning? Could the pressure of living two lives have led my sister to run away - or even end it? Or did someone in her tight circle of friends and family have reason to want her gone? Someone out there must know something.

Publisher's Summary
You thought you’d always be safe there…you were wrong.
Carly had thought they’d always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively redesigned and renovated - a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cozily on the sofa, watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets....
Until now. Because Mark has fallen in love. With someone he definitely shouldn’t have. Someone who isn’t Carly. And suddenly their family home doesn’t feel like so much of a safe haven.
Carly thinks forever should mean forever, though: It’s her home, and she’ll stay there. Even the dark family secrets it contains feel like they belong to her. But someone disagrees. And, as threats start to arrive at her front door, it becomes clear, someone will stop at nothing. Because someone wants to demolish every last thing that makes Carly feel safe. Forever.
A utterly psychological thriller about what lies are hidden in the most beautiful homes. Perfect for fans of Date Night, Gone Girl, and The Woman in the Window.

Meh. Just okay.
I didn't enjoy this book like I have the others. the performance of the narrator was excellent. This story itself was not overly compelling and I kept waiting for something more to happen. I was disappointed that there really wasn't anything more. other than a small twist at the end, I really didn't enjoy this book and finished it just to get through it.

I don't know why people in these type of books act so differently than people would Irl but they do. These people made me feel dirty however it was well written and held my interest. I'd recommend just know that there isn't likeable characters in here. They are a messed up bunch.

Incredibly Absurd
Jaw-dropping. Yep. Jaw-dropping as in: "Are we expected to accept this ridiculous plot ... this rudimentary writing ... these stock characters ... without rolling our eyes?"
Even Tamsin Kennard's impeccable narration fails to lend this amateurish palaver the gravitas required to keep it afloat.
A word of advice: Take any and all gushing reviews with a large grain of salt.

Entertaining!
I'm baffled by the not-so-kind reviews about this book; I quite liked it! The narrator was great, and the story was so good I found myself making a point to listen to it at times when I normally wouldn't have an audiobook playing, just to see what happened next. If you put yourself in the shoes of the main character, it's a pretty dramatic story! I felt it was well-done, and was well worth a precious credit!

Definitely Not A Psychological Thriller
The Forever Home is what I would classify as 'an easy read.' It's a pleasant enough story and it's well read. However, this is not a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. The cover makes it seem like the people in the home will be somehow in danger.
In reality, The Forever Home is a simple cliche about a marriage that is dead, a cheating husband, and his stupid new floosy who is the same age as the couples' twenty-something daughters. The wife wants to keep her home, the ex spends all of her money, and she is tired of it.
I always enjoy Sue Watson's books for the most part but when I reached the end of 'The Forever Home' I heard myself say 'That's it??'
This book is just okay. I would wait until there is a sale to order it, and listen on a rainy day.

Hated It.. TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE
SPOILERS! Nothing annoys me more than a women portrayed as a doormat. What’s worse a character that doesn’t evolve. The main character of this book is a pushover, she lets everyone walk all over her and then makes excuses for them. The whole book, I wanted her to grow a backbone.
The ending is ridiculously far fetched and wrapped up in a pretty bow. I HATE when authors choose happy endings for everyone including the bad characters. A little revenge would have gone a long way but nope, doormat wishes everyone the best.

Characteristic “Sue Watson Heroine” But a Little Less Credulous
I find all of a Sue Watson’s books quite enjoyable- the domesticities that people point out as being ‘slow’ are quite what I’m looking for. I want a close, domestic tale with a twist and I certainly do not want to hang out in a detectives head. Comparing this to actual thrillers isn’t fair because it isn’t really a thriller. The only issue I tend to have with Sue Watson is that her heroines have to constantly ask themselves if they’re “just not being fair and maybe [so and so] isn’t *actually* as bad as they seem?? But they always obviously are so it can’t get tiresome. Carly is much less ready to assume that Everyone is Good but still has to ignore obvious signs in order to continue believing that ‘maybe THIS PERSON is actually ok and It is me who is the problem!’ And it can get tiresome. But overall I did find this one very fun to listen to. You gotta like the domestic stuff though, otherwise it’s time to switch to detective trilogies.

Enjoyable Cozy Drama Mystery!
Well done Sue Watson! This cozy perfect for endless pots of tea or coffee mystery became increasingly more enjoyable as the plot progresses.
I really enjoyed that the main character ends up feeling like one of your best friends telling you the story straight from heart, truthfully and raw.
It was a pleasure learning more about the character’s hopes and dreams along with the hard work and sacrifices marriage and motherhood can require depending on the situation.
There are a few good twists and turns but they are very believable, which I appreciated. Sometimes it’s nice to have a piece of fiction that feels like it can be a part of reality.
