À propos de cet audio

A lost child: On the eve of the first world war, a little girl is found abandoned on a ship to Australia. A mysterious woman called the Authoress had promised to look after her – but the Authoress has disappeared without a trace.

A terrible secret: On the night of her 21st birthday, Nell O'Connor learns a secret that will change her life forever. Decades later, she embarks upon a search for the truth that leads her to the windswept Cornish coast and the strange and beautiful Blackhurst Manor, once owned by the aristocratic Mountrachet family.

A mysterious inheritance: On Nell's death, her granddaughter, Cassandra, comes into an unexpected inheritance. Cliff Cottage and its forgotten garden are notorious among the Cornish locals for the secrets they hold – secrets about the doomed Mountrachet family and their ward Eliza Makepeace, a writer of dark Victorian fairytales. It is here that Cassandra will finally uncover the truth about the family and solve the century-old mystery of a little girl lost.

were we reading a book, or were we reading a book about someone reading a book. The ending leaves the reader wondering 🤔 what's happening or happened to Nel in her aged state. In Australia 🇦🇺 with her family that no one knows about. As far as the reader knows in this book. Is there going to be a book 2 so we can find out what happened with Nel and her life in Australia? It only makes sense to me, but I am only one voice in a sea of many. But, if there's to be a second book I would definitely recommend it. hint, hint.

The Hidden Garden

I’ve read several of Kate Morton’s novels now, and this was one of the most exciting and well written stories! Every storyline was equally interesting, I loved how it was all interconnected, and we got puzzle piece by puzzle piece. Anna Skellern’s narrating was wonderful. Her voice is so pleasing to listen to, and she switches between characters with such ease, from different accents, to genders, to classes. Overall loved this one, and even though it was long, I didn’t want it to end!!

One of Kate Morton’s Best

This was a long story, with lots of plot twists to keep it interesting. At first I found it difficult to follow because it quickly jumped between time periods, telling the story from the perspective of different characters, but it soon started to make sense. The narrator was excellent and tackled the different accents and voices with ease.

Excellent narration

This book is excellent. I am impressed with the storyline, and the visual and auditory imagery were so impressive that I felt like I was there. Thanks for such a wonderful story!

This is an expertly written novel that weaves a complex storyline spanning three generations and two continents. The stories are linked by an intriguing mystery, fairytales, and the plight of being a woman. The writing is outstanding and the performance excellent. It's a loooooong book and perfect for those that want to sink into something dense. Others might struggle with the number of characters and multiple metaphors. I've been meaning to read it for a long time and am so glad I did.
