Publisher's Summary

We all know that perfect parenting does not exist, yet we still struggle with the social expectations that teach us that being imperfect is synonymous with being inadequate. These messages are powerful and we end up spending precious time and energy managing perception and the carefully edited versions of the families we show to the world. On The Gifts of Imperfect Parenting, Dr. Brené Brown invites us on a journey to transform the lives of parents and children alike. Drawing on her 12 years of research on vulnerability, courage, worthiness, and shame, she presents ten guideposts to creating what she describes as "wholehearted" families where each of us can continually learn and grow as we reach our full potential.

"It's actually our ability to embrace imperfection that will help us teach our children to have the courage to be authentic, the compassion to love themselves and others, and the sense of connection that gives true purpose and meaning to life," states Dr. Brown. The Gifts of Imperfect Parenting is a practical and hopeful program for raising children who know that they are worthy of love, belonging, and joy.

Embrace imperfection

A great point that perfection is not what we strive for as parents. Being real, authentic and gentle about our imperfections with ourselves and others... these are my new goals.

Great listen, some really good take aways....

If you love Berne’s work and have listened to many of her other books this one won’t dissapoint, it definitely has a vibe of what we know her work to be...instilling worthiness and limiting shame...I did find that I was bookmarking a lot of good points and just different ways of thinking about things in this book also. Hearing it all in her voice is something that adds an understanding of the intention of each of the chapters and the feel behind it that you just wouldn’t get with anyone else.

Great parenting tools

I think that Brené does underline the main issues that are oblivious to so many of us because we were raised that way. She pushes us to question and change without shaming and criticizing others. A path to better parenting and personal growth. I just love her. Thank you Brené⭐️⭐️

Learned a lot!

This book is great. The author's short stories and her explanations of our different feelings are what I find wholesome.

Absolutely love Brene's work!

This book will change the way my husband and I parent moving forward. We were on the right track but this book has helped to clarify key elements of parenting choices that will help us continue to care for and nurture our children's development, along with our own! Thank you Brene for sharing your talent with us mamas (& papas).
