Publisher's Summary

Dear Listener,

This audio is the only one which describes every last detail of the Baudelaire children's miserable stay at Heimlich Hospital, which makes it one of the most dreadful audios in the world.

There are many pleasant things to listen to, but this audio contains not one of them. Within it are such burdensome details as a suspicious shopkeeper, unnecessary surgery, an intercom system, anesthesia, heart-shaped balloons, and some very startling news about a fire. Clearly you do not want to hear about such things.

I have sworn to research this story, and to record it as best I can, so I should know that this audio is something best left on the ground, where you undoubtedly found it.

With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

What the critics say

"Tim Curry is in his element performing Lemony Snicket. He offers abundant vocal impersonations, including real-sounding children; the excitement of squeaks, screams, and groans; and then, soothingly, a clear, warm narrative voice. Ideal for children and parents with imagination and a sense of the absurd." (AudioFile)

Ugh, a cliffhanger!

This book just proves how vicious Count Olaf and his henchmen are. It's just brutal what they consider doing to Violet.
Despite the dastardly plot, there are still numerous, hysterical parts in this book. The VFD aspect of the plot is evolving and I'm just loving these books. Onward to the next book, hooray!

Tim Curry Rocks Snicket

Love the Unfortunate Events series, and this one doesn't disappoint! If you love the series, despite the harrowing travels of these poor orphans, then listen to this book. Worth every penny just to hear Tim Curry's amazing voice. He truly brings a book to life like no other!

Superb kids books... Perfect reading

My eight-year old son (and his parents) have been increasingly gripped by the series. By this stage, as we approach the denouement (a word which here means...), no longer just on long car rides. Tim Curry's narration is also just perfect.

EXCELLENT reading, of another fun book by Snicket

I think Tim Curry was born to read these books. His voice is perfect for conveying the sense of doom and gloom that hangs over the unfortunate Baudelaire children. This is one of those kids books that adults can enjoy listening to nearly as much as kids do! I love his method of teaching children new words in a way that ties in with the story.

Highly recommended for kids, and also for adults who love kids stories.
