Publisher's Summary

“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand. I smile politely, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own....

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband, Andrew, seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Riveting!

Well, this was my second book by this author and I have to say that, even with the simplistic writing, I was highly entertained from the beginning, and that I did not want to put it down, hence my ratings.
I must confess that I was ready to hate this book, but I won’t lie.
I did read it in one sitting.
I barely moved from my chair (well, it was a dark Sunday in Toronto).
Yes. Guilty pleasure.
It did not matter that this was (at least that’s my impression) a blend of “Behind Closed Doors” (by B. A. Paris), “The Last Mrs. Parrish” (by Liv Constantine) and a bit of “Verity” (by Colleen Hoover).
The characters were not that likeable, but I was really curious about the housemaid, Millie. What’s her secret? Why was she jailed?
Nina, the employer, is such a sad and unlikeable able character. But I did feel sorry for her. Quite delusional but with a reason. She also holds a secret.
Her husband was just a lost soul. Or not?
Their daughter?
I could have drowned her in the bathtub.
No. I’m just kidding. I love kids. Gladly she wasn’t that present. 😂
Really, nothing is what it seems.
A good number of twists.
I did appreciate the change of POV.
The conclusion felt rushed and farfetched, but I can’t deny how entertaining this was.

Paperback (Grand Central Publishing): 325 pages, 62 chapters

Ebook (Kindle): 329 pages (default) (I’m curious about why Kobo (Canada) does not have the ebooks, but only audiobooks for this author).

Audiobook narrated by Lauryn Allman: 9h46 minutes (I so enjoyed the audiobook!)

have you read “Behind Closed Doors” (by B. A. Paris), “The Last Mrs. Parrish” (by Liv Constantine) and “Verity” (by Colleen Hoover)?

Narrator made the whole book 👌🏼

The narrator did a phenomenal job telling this story. She did both characters so perfectly. The story itself was maybe a little predictable but enjoyable nonetheless.

Wow!

This book had me riveted from the start
I finished it in one day, I could not stop.
Millie's out from a long prison sentence and is trying to find work which is hard enough since she got fired from her waitressing job and evicted out of her apartment, living in her car is desperate to find a normal.
She ends up finding work with rich Nina with her fancy house and handsome husband
Nina seems extra nice but all is not what it seems
Slowly her strange behaviour is revealed through ridiculous gaslighting and infuriating tasks she gives her.
I mean Nina is a piece of work. Ughh definitely makes you want to scream
Andrew, her husband is quite understanding and cool...quite perfect in fact
Millie looks at Nina and sees a beautiful woman, handsome husband and lovely house.
And Millie keeps finding the gardener trying to tell her something and that he despises Nina although she can see why.
Nina is obnoxious.
And what's worse is her daughter Cecelia is just like her mother.
Not to mention Millie lives in the attic with the lock on the outside
What is really wrong with Nina?
The story gets hotter with the secret between Millie and Andrew
More secrets are brewing
Stranger things are happening
And then suddenly a fight between Nina and Andrew happens, Nina has to leave in the dead night of a storm.
How could Nina treat Andrew so painfully.
Finally Millie can rest easy with Nina gone.
But then...
The real secret comes out to play and suddenly Millie is trapped in her own room with a madmans game
But then....
Another secret is Andrew does not know what Millie is capable of either and the game is reversed.

What a book! 😱 😂
First book that I gave 10+++ stars for a stellar ending...served up perfectly!
