Publisher's Summary

From Liane Moriarty, author of the number-one New York Times best sellers Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, comes an unforgettable novel defined by her signature sharp wit, pause-resisting storyline, and lovable and eccentric characters.

A family secret explodes. A first kiss betrays. A mystery is solved. A marriage is tested. It all happens on one extraordinary night - the Last Anniversary!

Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one who got away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was going to propose, she broke his heart. A year later, he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now, Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie's house on Scribbly Gum Island - home of the famously unsolved Munro Baby mystery.

Sophie moves onto the island and begins a new life as part of an unconventional family where it seems everyone has a secret. Grace, a beautiful young mother, is feverishly planning a shocking escape from her perfect life. Margie, a frumpy housewife, has made a pact with a stranger, while dreamy Aunt Rose wonders if maybe it's about time she started making her own decisions.

As Sophie's life becomes increasingly complicated, she discovers that sometimes you have to stop waiting around - and come up with your own fairy-tale ending.

Amazing Story and Narrator

I read a few of the negative reviews regarding the narrator and, after listening to the sample, decided to buy the book. I loved it! The narrator was engaging and expressive, at least in my opinion. The story kept me interested until the last page, the characters were wonderful (I'm going to miss them) and I actually can still picture the houses on Scribbly Gum Island.

The narrator is terrible.

Heather Wilds is an awful narrator. She emphasizes all the wrong words, and sounds like she is half asleep. I wish all of Liane Moriarty’s books were narrated by the brilliant Caroline Lee.

ENTRETAINING WITH A GREAT PERFORMANCE

This is my first novel by this author. I found it quite enjoyable and entertaining. It makes for a great light read with enough twists and romance to keep you interested. The narrator does a fantastic job!

probably not a bad book

unfortunately the reader of this book made it impossible to listen to, which is sad because I enjoyed three other books by this author.

Predictable but enjoyable. Good narration.

easy to go through, predictable ending, good narration but better at 1.2 speed. I mostly enjoyed the physiology behind the characters.

Re-Released Title

Nothing infuriates me more than a book that is packaged as a new release when it has in fact been in print and audio for years. We will see if audible even prints this review as they have neglected to print reviews for other books I’ve made the same criticisms of in the past. The Last Anniversary was published in 2006- there is nothing different about this release. I’ll be returning.

Terrible narration

I love Liane Moriarty and this story was enjoyable. But I’ve heard more engaging timbre and emotional range by asking Alexa for today’s weather.

Good story but narrator very flat

The story was interesting, but the narrator would be better suited for biography’s or non fiction. She has a nice voice, but has no emotion, so doesn’t bring the characters to life. I think the story would have benefited from a more spirited or lively narrator.

Awful narration

I returned this title. It pained me. I LOVE Liane Moriarty. The narration was unbearable. My fervent wish is this: Audible will join with the author to re-record this audiobook with a narrator that earns more than 1 star by your listeners. What a waste of a time and money. Thank you, Audible and Amazon, for allowing exchanges (or I would be really pissed).

Love Moriarty not this reader

I love Liane Moriarty’s characters and storyline’s! I did not like the lifeless reading of this audiobook. The performer has a very lifeless voice and it was hard for me to listen to. I kept thinking that it was like she was trying to read a book to us that had no punctuation so she was unable to use the proper intonation or feeling. Her voice was very pleasant, so there’s that.

Absolutely Fantastic!

I loved this author, she really knows how to write about people. It starts slow but trust the author. This story had me feeling all sorts of emotions. I could really relate to some of the characters. I preferred the other narrators that Moriarty used in the past but the story is beautiful. It's a must listen! I'm signed in under my husband's name but I think many types of listeners would enjoy this book.

NOT THE AUTHORS FAULT

I couldn’t agree more with reviewers who note how annoying it is to buy an audiobook (that initially does not show up in my library) only to find that I already own it.

Laugh out loud ... for real

Heather Wild’s droll sarcastic reading of Moriarity’s witty prose is highly entertaining. No one could have narrated this better. I found myself laughing and smiling many times throughout this cleverly constructed book.
Sophie finds herself on the receiving end of her ex boyfriend, Thomas’ aunt Connie’s house. The house located on an island where many years before there was a mystery.
Naturally, she’s taken aback, and the usual family dramas and mystery solving ensues. Witty observations about human behavior and self deprecating inner dialogue makes this another winner under Lianne Moriarity’s belt. Loved every minute of it loved the narration , was sad to finish it.

Meh

It was just okay. Starts off really slow but sort of picks up eventually. There were a lot of characters, almost too many, which is complicated by the narrator having the same monotonous tone for everyone. The story itself felt clunky to me (I’ll try to say this without spoiling anything) especially some of the sudden character changes towards the end. At one point it was going back and forth from past to present and then as things picked up it stopped doing that and changed to the past being told to someone by another character. It almost felt like there was a struggle to decide what path the story would take. I’ve read all her stuff and this one just felt meh. No way could I have actually read this one along with the narration or even after the audio version like I have many of her others. The pace wasn’t there and the story was a bit bland. By the end I felt like nothing actually happened except that I had waisted another credit. Oh well.

Give it time

The first few hours I felt duped into spending a credit. I decided to trust the author.
I am so happy I did! Thank you Liane, what a fun journey.
