I love romances between older MMCs and this one absolutely hit the mark with great flashbacks to their time as young adults and the conflict that ended their first relationship. The animosity between coach/player in present day was palpable after Jethro's trade to Clay's team in Colorado. They have to work through painful memories in order to successfully make a run for the Cup and reawaken the feelings they once felt for each other.
There is just enough angst to keep you captivated by their story, but so many sweet & funny moments that this is undeniably a comfort read! It was also so great to see characters from previous books and have some of the timeline events overlap.
Could there be a better pairing than Teddy Hamilton & JF Harding? I honestly don't think so! Teddy portrayed Clay's selfless personality so well, always willing to put others ahead of himself. JF absolutely nailed Jethro's broodier exterior while also softening him so well during the scene with his nephew/ward. Just a power duo!
The chemistry & push/pull between Clay & Jethro was really well written! This book may not be insanely high on spice but the scenes between them hit SO WELL because of the longing and pining they've both endured for years. It is a bit slow burn in present day, but Sarina does a masterful job of weaving in spice through the flashbacks to their younger selves; keeping me totally satisfied until they reconciled in present day.
The Last Guy On Earth is another spectacular addition to the Hockey Guys series and an audiobook I'll be listening to over and over again!
