Publisher's Summary

The audiobook features a bonus conversation between Gregg Hurwitz and #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner, author of the award-winning Detective D. D. Warren novels.

Evan Smoak returns in The Last Orphan, the next New York Times bestselling Orphan X thriller—when everything changes and everything is at risk.

As a child, Evan Smoak was plucked out of a group home, raised and trained as an off-the-books assassin for the government as part of the Orphan program. When he broke with the program and went deep underground, he left with a lot of secrets in his head that the government would do anything to make sure never got out.

When he remade himself as The Nowhere Man, dedicated to helping the most desperate in their times of trouble, Evan found himself slowly back on the government's radar. Having eliminated most of the Orphans in the program, the government will stop at nothing to eliminate the threat they see in Evan. But Orphan X has always been several steps ahead of his pursuers.

Until he makes one little mistake...

Now the president has him in her control and offers Evan a deal—eliminate a rich, powerful man she says is too dangerous to live and, in turn, she'll let Evan survive. But when Evan left the Program he swore to only use his skills against those who really deserve it. Now he has to decide what's more important—his principles or his life.

Kinda disappointing

You hope when you get an orphan X book that it’s going to be like “Out of the Dark” was… but instead of an intense mission oriented book that’s action packed and keeps you on the edge of your seat with some parts of the story being heart warming and thought provoking, you get one that seems like over half the book is just Evan listening to people talk about their thinking which is so much deeper than any human really thinks and it just gets a little boring. I miss the tactical side of the book with the mission and the mission planning… and some good humour and a good love story with Mia.

I believe Gregg Hurwitz is one of the most talented authors ever, he just needs to keep it simple and go back to the way series was.

Scott Brick was still fantastic.

Great entry to the series!

Greg H always knows how to deliver a great book and story. Seeing Evan grow as a human being is always quite satisfying.

Never long enough!

I could listen to Evan Smoak stories all day. Hurwitz is a talented writer and Scott Brick brings Evan to life. As Evan’s found family grows, so does he - with all the action and one liners we know and love.

Message to Gregg Hurwitz...

Dear Gregg, please eat lots of colorful vegetables, wear a seatbelt, and see a doctor regularly. I love your writing so much, I need a full lifespan of your books. Evan Smoak is my hero, and so are you.

Good, but was more about X finding himself

I needed a bit of patience working through this character study, but enjoyed it over all.
