Story
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

This narrator isn't for me.
I thought I would be able to get past the reader's speech issues, but the story didn't really match the original description either, so I called it fini after an hour.

Dont waste 50 hours of your life
I like to finish things that I started, which is why I finished this audiobook, but omg, this was excruciatingly boring and unnecessarily drawn out. The most entertaining part was listening to the narrator, who has dentures that dont fit him well, pronounce his "s". Or when he does a female character with a nauseatingly whiny voice. Wow.

The performance hurts the story
I really did enjoy this series while my ratings may not reflect that in some eyes.
The story itself takes place in a future with humankind having changed dramatically which I greatly enjoyed. I personally love someone telling a story about us humans and how we lived, fell or continued as a species, The characters for the most part are very likeable or hateable as they are written and by the end of the books I was very invested in how things would turn out for them. Again though it was really the last book and a half of the series that grabbed me. Up to that point had been struggling to continue listening with the pacing and the narration.
The narrator here is very one note and flat. Even after these six books I still can't really pick any spot where I remember the narrator adding to the story and making me see what the author was striving to tell me. This only my opinion so take my statements with a pinch of salt but that is usually what gets me to love a narrator and author's work even more. It really felt like this person was trying but just didn't have the tool set to make the story come alive.
Overall the story was pretty good with characters that were fairly endearing and interesting in a intriguing future earth. The narration just was not for me sadly.

6 books and only half of one was bearable.
I honestly should have stoped after one third of the first book. I told myself there's no way all the characters, all of them save one, will keep be this awful, surely something will change... Well that one interesting character become extremely bland and there is a little bit of a "redemption" / build up for some character. This only come about the on second half to the last third of the last book.
The one thing the writers do well is the ability of having the plans or intents of characters fail for reasonable reasons and have them deal with the consequences and aftermath.
The voice actor does a really good job, especially considering the material. Thinking on it, he was probably a big part of why I stuck with it.
Still I would not recommend the series and its spin-offs.

what a great epic story!
I had this in my wish list for months. I put it off because even though it was post apocalyptic, I usually go for a more current apocalypse (love reading/listening as the apocalypse as it is happening) and this one takes place 300 years after.
with that said, I am so glad I downloaded it - well worth the credit! listening for ~50 hours to the same story, can sometimes get boring and repetitive (I have a few book series that I got half way through, and didn't care to finish), but this was not the case with the Last Survivors book series book 1-6.
the writing was great and you wouldn't know from listening that it was a collaboration of the two authors - Adair and Piperbrook certainly complement each others style.
And of course, you can't beat anything narrated by Sean Runnette - that man can describe paint drying on the walls and make you want to stick around to see how it turns out :-)

Grew Wearisome
While much of the story I did like, certain writing devices were excessively overused which was like a stab-in-the-eye every time it I heard it. For instance: Blackthorn "bit his lip." Fitz "bit her lip." Franklin"bit his lip." Ella "bit her lip, Bray bit his lip." Literally, every character was constantly "biting their lip" if even a hint of consternation. I don't know how anyone got anything done with all the friggin', incessant lip-biting. The books needs a re-edit.
The second thing that irritated me was the constant sermonizing that men bad (especially men in power), woman good theme. Guys...just give it a rest...I get it, you're woke.
The third thing that eventually drove me nuts was the narrator's intonation lilt. It was like being cooed at constantly by uncle perv. Nearly all sentences ended in the exact low-downturn of tone in almost a sing-song meter. Ugh!
Maybe if I took a year to listen to the books, I wouldn't have been so irritated...but I listened to it straight through over 2 weeks.
