Publisher's Summary

From The New York Times best-selling author of The Girl Who Came Home comes a historical novel inspired by true events, and the extraordinary female lighthouse keepers of the past 200 years.

“They call me a heroine, but I am not deserving of such accolades. I am just an ordinary young woman who did her duty.”

1838: Northumberland, England. Longstone Lighthouse on the Farne Islands has been Grace Darling’s home for all of her 22 years. When she and her father rescue shipwreck survivors in a furious storm, Grace becomes celebrated throughout England, the subject of poems, ballads, and plays. But far more precious than her unsought fame is the friendship that develops between Grace and a visiting artist. Just as George Emmerson captures Grace with his brushes, she in turn captures his heart.

1938: Newport, Rhode Island. Nineteen years old and pregnant, Matilda Emmerson has been sent away from Ireland in disgrace. She is to stay with Harriet, a reclusive relative and assistant lighthouse keeper, until her baby is born. A discarded, half-finished portrait opens a window into Matilda’s family history. As a deadly hurricane approaches, two women, living a century apart, will be linked forever by their instinctive acts of courage and love.

Astonishing

I bought this book mostly because I love Imogen Church. I didn’t know anything about the author or the story, or genre for that matter.
I have never cried or laughed like this with any other book.
The only bad thing is that it’s over.
Loved it.

A Beautiful Story!

I loved this book so very much. It's a story of two women, born a century apart. It's a tale of their struggles, their loved ones, their sacrifices and their triumphs. It made me love them and feel part of their lives. It made me smile and it made me cry tears of loss. THe narrator does a wonderful job and enhances the story with her artful delivery. It's a wonderful book!

A beautiful story beautifully read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story wrapped around historical facts. It is totally enthralling and inspiring and read with all the appropriate emotion and accent of each unique character. It would be especially transporting if one were listening by the sea with the backdrop of waves crashing and the tang of salt sea air.

The Lighthouse Keeper’s Daughter

A very good read. There are multiple well developed characters, sisters, love, and some happiness and sadness. I was impressed by the ending. Not what I expected.

I JUST WANTED TO KEEP LISTENING!

I LOVED IT! Based on the actual life of Grace Darling. Even though this is a fictional novel, I can see how everything could be true, and I loved it for it. Hazel Gaynor wrote a beautiful story about strong women linked through time. One of the things I enjoyed the most, is how she goes from one character to another and from one time to another, telling their different stories.

Beautifully written, as well as narrated. Imogen Church does a wonderful job.
I just wanted to keep on listening.
This will definitely be among my favourite audiobooks.

Great story. Exceptional performance

I love a good book but I need a good narrator. This book exceeded expectations on both sides. Fair warning though, it's a tear jerker
