Summary

2023 SOVAS Award Finalist for Audiobook Narration—Thrillers, Best Voiceover

A cunning, twisty, and unsettling novel of psychological suspense with a startling conclusion by Loreth Anne White, the Amazon Charts and Washington Post bestselling author of The Patient’s Secret.

Kit Darling is a maid with a snooping problem. She’s the “invisible girl,” compelled to poke into her wealthy clients’ closely guarded lives. It’s a harmless hobby until Kit sees something she can’t unsee in the home of her brand-new clients: a secret so dark it could destroy the privileged couple expecting their first child. This makes Kit dangerous to the couple. In turn, it makes the couple—who might kill to keep their secret—dangerous to Kit.

When homicide cop Mallory Van Alst is called to a scene at a luxury waterfront home known as the Glass House, she’s confronted with evidence of a violent attack so bloody it’s improbable the victim is alive. But there’s no body. The homeowners are gone. And their maid is missing. The only witness is the elderly woman next door, who woke to screams in the night. The neighbor was also the last person to see Kit Darling alive.

As Mal begins to uncover the secret that has sent the lives of everyone involved on a devious and inescapable collision course, she realizes that nothing is quite as it seems. And no one escapes their past.

Will definitely follow this author. The accents were badly pronounced and confusing. Great plot and takes place in Vancouver, Canada.

Really enjoyed this story

Gripping and twisty! Being from Vancouver, I enjoyed the setting. Accents by the narrator were hard to take at times, especially Benoit.

Good Twists

I really enjoyed this book and would absolutely recommend reading it. I don’t think I’d recommend this audiobook however. The voice actors accents were laughably bad at times. I thought one character had a Jamaican accent, only to learn the character had a “slight British accent”. It completely took me out of the story it was so bad.

Overall, exciting story but poor audiobook.

Great story, sub par voice performance

I really enjoyed the story. It had some fun twists and turns. I'm definitely going to keep it in my library!

I read all of the reviews prior to buying and listening to this audio book, and I'm glad I did. The narrator did an absolutely amazing job... but, as others have mentioned, the accents could be a little interesting at times. Because I read the reviews, prior to listening, I actually enjoyed the narration more than I would have had I not read the reviews as it added another layer of enjoyment (for me, personally).

I definitely recommend this audio book if you are looking for a thriller/suspense novel with a little extra character.

Enjoyable

This is one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to in terms of story and performance. The narrator did an excellent job reading each role and the story had so many twists and turns that it was tough to stop listening at times. I loved the character development and was engrossed in the thick plot that was both complex and deep but easy to understand. One of my very favourites!

I could not stop listening!
