Description

Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she did. And she can never let her leave.

They say every house has its secrets, and the house that Maggie and Nina have shared for so long is no different. Except that these secrets are not buried in the past.

Every other night, Maggie and Nina have dinner together. When they are finished, Nina helps Maggie back to her room in the attic, and into the heavy chain that keeps her there. Because Maggie has done things to Nina that can’t ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price.

But there are many things about the past that Nina doesn’t know, and Maggie is going to keep it that way - even if it kills her.

Because in this house, the truth is more dangerous than lies.

Repetitive but good

I found this book Repetitive and dragged out. There was no real resolution, which I found disappointing. I did enjoy the mother and daughter conflicts as they were very relatable. 7/10

Tiresome

Started off ok, then it got to be a bit much. Could have done without the tiresome whining about being a mother. I think I got the point from both perspectives about 3 hours in, the rest just became redundant and increasingly painful on the ears whenever a “Mommy” dialogue came along.

A Good read

I enjoyed the story very much. and the narr5was excellent. The only reason it didn't get the full 5 stars was because I could figure out who the psycho was really early so that was disappointing, but i still enjoyed the book.

Every single book has been amazing. I’m guaranteed a great story and will pounce on anything Marrs has written. The ending was so unpredictable!

Good, full of surprises, something missing

It was a great book. The reader was perfect! The book was good, there were a lot of twists, however, some better than others. It’s worth the read, not in my top 10 all the same.

Creepy, unsettling weird main character surprising end

I wanted to read something different to a romance and I love the voice of Elizabeth Knowelden so I decided to try this book, I have miss feelings about it, first of all the narrator doesn’t modify her voice with the different characters therefore it was confusing since although she mentioned Nina or Maggie at the beginning of each chapter, I wasn’t sure after a while of who was talking. Then it was disturbing to hearing Nina’s disturb & twisted thoughts and that things never ceased to worsen... I don’t know if I should recommend it or not

John Marrs does it again!!!!

Maggie and Nina take the complicated mother - daughter relationship to another level. The weight of their choices has its own gravitational pull and sucks in those who get to close with unmatched fury. John Marr unpacks his characters slowly, and doesn't mind if we don't like them because he'll ensure we understand them in the final act. If you like your novels to keep you guessing and aren't afraid of the darker side of human nature, you need to just read everything he's written. This is no exception. Brilliant narration as well!

So engaging! What a rollercoaster of a story!!!

WHAT?! WHAT DID I JUST READ Y'ALL? >0< I'm pretty sure this has been the most HORRIFIC, TWISTED, MIND-BENDING, ROLLER-COASTER OF A HELLRIDE I have read in 2020 [and probably in a long time!] Queue me grabbing my imaginary trophy about to crown this as my favorite thriller of the year..! I don't even know how I can go about trying to review this without spoilers, so I definitely wanna tread carefully here 0.0 ...! We have Nina and we have Maggie. Nina is Maggie's daughter, and they've been a family for forever. Nina is her mum's caretaker and works a 9-5 and comes home to tend to her. Not exactly the amazing life one might imagine for themselves, but you would do anything for your family.. wouldn't you? But as they say, suburbia is a place full of many secrets... and the past has quite the way with rearing its ugly head. As we observe the daily lives of Maggie and Nina as the reader, it is up to us to discover.. what lies between them. *queue The Twilight Zone sound effects* You do NOT wanna miss this one y'all! Fellow psych thriller fans REJOICE - this IS the one you have been WAITING FOR!

Couldn’t Put It Down!!! So Good!!

NO SPOILERS! I love John Marrs books and they keep getting better. This book was very different and a true psychological thriller. The narration was phenomenal. The villains voice made me want to punch her in the face.. it’s that annoying. This book had me engrossed and in the end left me completely satisfied. I highly recommend to anyone who likes domestic thrillers or psychological thrillers.

Pathetic women

Both main characters are pathetic and the story is predictable. I made myself complete it because I rarely do not finish what I start.

Whoa!

If you really enjoy physiological thrillers, this is the book for you! I don't think I've ever read a book with more twists and turns than this one. The characters are so well developed. You will find yourself loving and hating them at different times, for different reasons. I highly recommend!!

Great

Loved that it kept me on my toes at all times, interesting story. At the beginning I thought I wasn't going to like it as I thought I had the book figured out but nope, took me by surprise.

Captivating!

What Lies Between Us is one of the most dark and compelling psychological thrillers I’ve read this year. The story is seriously so messed up told between two unreliable narrators. Who do you believe? Who shall you trust? The story is disturbing and told from two point of views within multiple timelines. POV from Maggie and Nina, between the past and the present. Confusing? No, not at all. John Marrs is seriously becoming one of my all time favorite authors! His storytelling abilities is out of this world!!! His writing is so addiction leaving me wanting more and more. I highly recommend this one!!

Narrator Elizabeth Knowelden lisps and whispers

John Marrs is an excellent writer. His stories are beautifully developed and creepy and interesting and twisty and so very original!! I will buy a book just seeing his name on it. But this narrator!! She is so offensive to my ear, I had to stop listening. I kept thinking this would get better but no, it never did, I skipped ahead hoping the whisper/lisp was for a reason but no, that's just the way she reads. Listening to a sample does not help as you think this way of speaking is for maybe a person hiding and whispering. This came free with an Unlimited book so I didn't pay but I am still so disappointed as I just love Marrs's books and was looking forward to a great listen.
