Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts continues the hauntingly spectacular Lost Bride Trilogy with book two, The Mirror.

“Brittany Pressley delivers a vivid performance.”—AudioFile

When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.

Then one night the mirror appears and Sonya glides through this looking glass, into the past—and sees a bride murdered on her wedding day, the circle of gold torn from her finger. It is a scene that will play out again and again—a centuries-old curse that must be broken—and a puzzle she must solve if there is any hope of breaking the curse.

What the critics say

Praise for Inheritance

"Roberts takes all of the beloved elements of classic gothic romances, including a marvelously atmospheric old mansion as well as a spunky heroine starting over in life, then puts her own inventive spin on things... an incisively etched cast of characters and a spooktacular plot that will keep readers up long past their regular bedtimes." —Booklist (starred)

"Roberts is in fine form here. Her lush, ethereal world of ghosts and spirits is the perfect foil for Sonya’s down-to-earth, almost spartan manner... Exciting launch for Roberts’ new trilogy." —Kirkus Reviews (starred)

There is too much of the same thing over and over … certainly the story could be wrapped up in this book.

I have been a life long Nora Roberts fan. Trilogies are enjoyable because each one usually focuses on the ongoing storylines and a new relationship between a different couple in each book. I guess I’m just used to that. But when the romance between Owen & Cleo was not the focus, Sonia still the main character, I was completely thrown off. Then I was disappointed the milestone moments between Cleo & Owen are not focal points. Their romantic moments just glossed over and I think he should have been the person she took in her boat. This book was like a bridge. SO repetitive and boring. Hopefully the next one is better. Still so confused. What did I just read? I was looking forward to Nora’s signature trilogy style.

Disappointing & repetitive

Love the characters and how they band together.
The scenery is beautifully described in a way that transports you to the manor with its epic library ballroom and the cliffs it sits upon.
Looking forward to seeing where future instalments take our charters next and that awful witch being dealt with.

Looking forward to the next book

I hate to break it to the two people that left the bad reviews, but a lot of Nora Roberts books do follow the same pattern throughout them, especially in a series that has more than one title. I did, however notice she is deviated from three different women in each book. She has gone for a different approach this time. And I’m not angry with it. Although I do wish we had more information in the backstory at this point at the end of the second book so I am hoping in a week when the next one comes out all the loose ends will be closed and things will make a little bit more sense.

I don’t know what these other two people are talking about. This book was great.
