Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Lisa Gardner is at the top of her form as she takes us on a desperate manhunt for a killer who preys upon his victims’ minds - just before he claims their lives.

What do you do when a killer targets the people you love the most? When he knows how to make them vulnerable? When he knows the same about you?

These are the questions that haunt FBI Special Agent Pierce Quincy. The police say his daughter’s death was an accident. Quincy will risk everything to learn the truth - and there’s only one person willing to help. Ex-cop Rainie Connor had once been paired professionally - and personally - with the brilliant FBI profiler. He helped her through the darkest days of her life.

Now it’s time for Rainie to return the favor. But this killer is like none these two hard-boiled pros have ever encountered. This twisted psychopath has an insatiable hunger for revenge...and for fear. As the clock ticks down to one unspeakably intimate act of vengeance, the only way Rainie can unmask this killer is to step directly in his murderous path. She will become a murder waiting to happen. She will be...the next accident.

Excellent read!

Such a good book! I kept thinking that I knew who the culprit was but I kept getting proven wrong. It was really well written.

I’m a little confused?

As i was listening to this book, it struck me that i’ve already heard this book. I’m not sure why this is released again by a different narrator. I had to go back, but this book is already available on audible. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The book and series itself was good, that why i didn’t think twice about pre-ordering it.

This is not new

I kept thinking I’d already heard this but I continued listening to make sure. Turns out I had, it’s a great book but had I known, I wouldn’t have used a credit on it.

Bait & Switch

I was so excited for a new Lisa Gardner novel. A moment later, so disappointed. This novel was released in 2001. New audio release in 2020 was a weak way to say “new.” I have never encountered this on audible, I was saddened by this reality.

Great...except

The story grabbed me. True thriller! However, I was disappointed with narrator. I can’t put my finger on it. Her intonation, the voice itself. Unfortunately, for me, I won’t listen to a book that she narrates.

Not one of Lisa Gardner's best

I love Lisa Gardner, but this book was not up to her usual writing standards. The story started out very slow. I almost returned the book. I persevered and it got better with some good twists and turns. It was just okay overall.

A 2001 book!

The book was great even though I had heard it before on Books on Tape. I think it’s kind of tricky to tout it as a NEW book by Lisa Gardner when it was published in 2001. But still a good book.

Great Book

Love the book, but wished the strong language was not there. The story line was very good.

Deceptive marketing

Lisa G is one of my favorite artists. I wait with anticipation for her next release. I was excited to see a new audio book billed as being released to n 2020. Which it was but the book was written in 2001. Disappointing

Great and unexpected twists and turns!

This book was hard to put down. Loved finding out who the unsub REALLY was and how manipulative people can be, as well as patient!
