Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are and learn to live and breathe freely.

Just a collection of inspirational quotes, stories
I thought this book would offer real advice on how to find your life's purpose, but it's really just a collection of inspirational quotes (and brief stories) from celebs Oprah has interviewed. That and a sort of spiritual sermon. If you've never read anything self-help/inspirational/spiritual then this might make you think and it might be helpful, but there's really nothing new or profound in this book that hasn't appeared in the very many other inspirational books out there. Contains a lot of mumbo-jumbo like, "It doesn't matter if the glass is half empty or half full when the pitcher of water is sitting next to it." And, "You've always had the power." It wasn't a terrible book, but I was expecting more substance. It's also a short for a book, at just under 3 hours..

If you're going through something-pick this up!
I see many reviews talking about how this book has a lot of pictures and quotes and I definitely would get this as my coffee table book to pick up anytime I want to read one. But I got the audiobook because I couldn't wait to hear more life lessons from Oprah! The audiobook is UNBELIEVABLE and brought me to tears at many points and I felt like she was really speaking to me. I really needed to hear this and like so many things Oprah has taught us, nothing she has given us was ever a waste of time (to me at least). Don't let the quotes steer you away from the powerful lessons this book teaches you. Each chapter has a theme and she speaks of something which really changed her life in each one and it is backed up my quotes from others who actually experienced those things and how they made it through (vague but don't want to spoil). Life can create little dark clouds in your world but this book really showed me how to look for the light. Thank you, Oprah, I loved it!

Even better on audible than the written page.
This book is dynamic and full of profound thoughts and stories. Im on my second listen and have found different stories and quests impact me the second time in very different ways than the first time through. The narration is beautiful and feels like you are listening in on peoples very smart and transformative conversations. Since the audible version has the actual people speaking their stories, hearing their sincerity and emotion behind the messages have an even greater impact. Great all around experience!

Wisdom from a collection of spiritual thinkers
While I won't say that I loved this one as much as, What I know for sure, I will say I loved this listen and I will have it on repeat for a while. I appreciate that, as usual, Ms. Winfrey is sharing wisdom gleaned from many thought leaders. What I enjoyed was hearing it in their own words. Yes, it could have been cleaner had the recordings been captured in-studio, but hearing profound thoughts captured in the moment was inspiring. Worth the audible credit or purchase, even though it's just shy of 3 hours. There is a lot of value here for your time invested.

Gave me many doses of just what I needed to hear..
I love this book and have listened to it twice since I bought it 3 days ago. In the book Oprah has interviewed quite a few thought leaders and other interesting people of today. She then beautifully and masterfully wove bits and pieces of those conversations throughout the various chapters on various subjects. It is inspiring, Insightful and the does a good job of putting a lot of life's situations and our own thoughts into context and a
really good framework.

Heavy on religion and faith
I expected more from this book because it was Oprah. Some of the other lower star reviews can word my thoughts on it better than I can. It felt like the concept was “Just have faith in yourself”. There wasn’t any solid advice or processes on actually doing any of this.

Love.
Anything brand new and groundbreaking? Not if you've been in the personal and spiritual development game for awhile. A perfect introduction for anyone who has been considering jumping into either side of the field. No matter what, It is beautiful. It is an easy listen, full of gorgeous reminders, gems of wisdom, and so much heart. I spent a lot of this book quietly nodding and agreeing, pausing to let a message marinate in my mind for a bit longer, and quite a few times hollering "yes! amen!" Definitely one to keep in the collection to go back to often.

Junk Food for Your Soul
From the person who brought into the spotlight the charlatans Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz, this is an extension of vapid and feckless faux-solutions to all problems and ailments.
There are snippets of truth and self-healing here, similar to what one could find in a book of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or group discussion sessions. Unfortunately this product waters those methods down and packages in a form that serves the capitalist interests of Oprah's brand rather than for the benefit of her admirers. It is a shame that someone who legitimately achieved greatness from a place of poverty and social difficulty has created a product line that serves those who need it least, and blames the victims for being in similar circumstances that she was so *lucky* to have escaped.
-- Should you trust your instincts above all else? Not everyone has good instincts, otherwise we wouldn't need the scientific method.
-- Is the only obstacle in life your own hesitation and self-doubt? For those with real world issues, this is folly. Those with terminal illness, those held in the social bondage of their familial or fiscal situations, and for those with circumstances contrary to the social norm and are held back by institutionalized racism, sexism, ageism, or bigotry, the idea that you are holding yourself back is nothing more than blaming the victim of poor fortune.
This is a book that could benefit a bored member of the idle rich, toiling away their life in gossip magazines and white wine. These kinds of people need this type of spiritual awakening to help them find purpose and motivation. For everyone else, whose purpose involves the struggle of real problems and distant solutions, this is a short jaunt through masochistic self-loathing and a path to lugubrious futility.
