Publisher's Summary

We always have a choice, Pema Chödrön teaches: We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us and make us increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us and make us kinder. Here Pema provides the tools to deal with the problems and difficulties that life throws our way. This wisdom is always available to us, she teaches, but we usually block it with habitual patterns rooted in fear. Beyond that fear lies a state of openheartedness and tenderness. This audiobook teaches us how to awaken our basic goodness and connect with others, to accept ourselves and others complete with faults and imperfections, and to stay in the present moment by seeing through the strategies of ego that cause us to resist life as it is.

So much wisdom!

This is one of my go to resources on the path, especially when I’m feeling scared, angry, overwhelmed, etc. Pema’s wisdom helps me to soften to my own inner experience, and then to what is going on around me. That softening inevitably leads me to seeing a way forward with gentle openhearted confidence. #Audible1

Fortified to face this moment

My life coach Rev Rowena Silvera Beck recommended this book. It was a wonderful lesson in living in the present and knowing that whatever life brings our way, we are prepared for it.

Great contemplation on compassion

Pema Chodron is a fantastic writer and the book is very well suited for driving about life contemplating compassion. Excellent focus on being un-grounded and un learning what we believe to be concrete.
