Publisher's Summary

New York Times Best Seller

Witness the epic final chapter of the Skywalker saga with the official novelization of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, including expanded scenes and additional content not seen in theaters!

The Resistance has been reborn. But although Rey and her fellow heroes are back in the fight, the war against the First Order, now led by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, is far from over. Just as the spark of rebellion is rekindling, a mysterious signal broadcasts throughout the galaxy, with a chilling message: Emperor Palpatine, long thought defeated and destroyed, is back from the dead.

Has the ancient Lord of the Sith truly returned? Kylo Ren cuts a swath of destruction across the stars, determined to discover any challenge to his control over the First Order and his destiny to rule over the galaxy - and crush it completely. Meanwhile, to discover the truth, Rey, Finn, Poe, and the Resistance must embark on the most perilous adventure they have ever faced.

Featuring all-new scenes adapted from never-before-seen material, deleted scenes, and input from the filmmakers, the story that began in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and continued in Star Wars: The Last Jedi reaches an astounding conclusion.

ummm

so, same nonsensical as the film except with some extra details to I assume fix that train wreck.
Mark Thompson is always amazing, he's the voice of Star wars in the book universe. he's literally the only good thing about this book

I'm biased

I loved this so much. But I also love the movie, so I am pretty biased.

Pleasantly surprised.

I'll admit after The Force Awakens, I was a bit skeptical the next two stories would be any good. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much action was in this!

enjoyed the reader

the story was meh. I did like hearing the thoughts of the characters, has the movie really did not do a good job describing what day were thinking. however every novel does that for a movie. overall great performance by the reader I really enjoyed his ability to speak in different tones

Way too overproduced. I would return it if I could

I wasn't a fan of the movie.
Thought to give the audiobook a shot.
That was a mistake.
If you are one that likes your audiobooks read like a radioplay, them this is for you. I appreciate a dramatic reading but I don't need sound effects. It distracts from the story.
A radio-play is produced differently than an audiobook and I think they forgot the difference.
I would return this if I could.

I already hated the movie, the book made it worse

Marc Thompson is a great narrator, and I think Rae Carson is a good writer, but this movie was not good at all.

Nope!

I've read/listened to 90% of the Star Wars books. I'm a devoted EU fan. I did not watch the movie. This book was garbage. Too much to complain about. I apologize to the author and especially the voice talent, it's not their fault. Congrats putting a golden shine on a turd. I do not say this lightly. And don't ever mouth Chewie's words again. Save it for the movies.

Thanks, I hate it

I thoroughly dislike TROS as a movie. So, of course I would dislike this book. I'm very happy that there are people who like it, though. I wish I did. As a book, if you put the story away for a minute, it's well written, and doesn't require a lot of focus to understand what's going on. On another note, it's the first time that Marc Thompson bothers me a bit, but I'm sure that it's because I'm biased. Although, I don't like how he voices female characters. But what can I do about that ?
All in all, it's a bad story but it manages to have a few good moments, although I can count them on one hand, out of over ten hours of listening to it.

Rae Carson's previous Star Wars book, "Most Wanted", is excellent. This one I don't like at all, but she didn't have any say in it. I read some things she said on social media, and it sort of sounds like she's projecting a bit on the characters, but that's just how I see it. I do think that she was the right person for the job, though. It just isn't for me.

Doesn’t improve a thing

So Ben Solo in that span of time found & repaired a salvageable TIE scout in a Death Star II hangar bay that wasn’t under the sea line. Flew this to Exegol...
When did Empire-era TIE have the ability to jump to Hyperspace?
I wonder if this is the writer’s creative choice or an edict handed down by LucasFilm Story Group. Either way, this is the awful story we got. I have no pride in being a G1 fan anymore. This is terrible stuff. You’ll find no closure or answers here. Only sketchy retcons of a terrible story. Nothing saved. All is lost. Enjoy your product.

Great novelization

As usual, the accompanying expanded novelization adds a lot to a movie that had to be cut down to under 3 hours. So much detail was included here, I'd highly recommend it for any Star Wars fan, whether you liked the movie or not.

Goes a lot more in depth than the movie does. Will miss these characters and hope they show up in future Star Wars movies/TV series

great end to the Skywalker saga.

If you are in your homes, and can't wait until the film comes out on blue ray, or streaming on Disney plus, you have the final tale of the Skywalker family.

It doesn’t make the movie any better

I was hoping the book would fix some of the holes and stupidity of the movie. But it doesn’t really. There are some good scenes and some of them give more fleshed out meaning to character motivations. But so much feel like it is ONLY in the book to explain or fix the movie.

Just skip this book. There are so many that are much better. And the book isn’t better than the movie. Though it also isn’t worse.

Wow - Yes - Wow - So GREAT

First of all I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan. I loved this book.

Music - Yes
Light Saber sounds - Yes
Droid Beeps - Yes

Fantastic narration - Oh YES

Great Story with so much more insights - Oh Hell Yes!

If you're a fan - you'll love it. All the SW books always have so much more to the story and this one is no different and really adds so much depth to it. You'll want to listen again and again.
