About this listen

A series of gruesome murders on the Lincolnshire fens. An old enemy from the past. A deadly game of cat and mouse.

The peaceful little village of Saltern-le-Fen is buzzing with excitement. A film crew are in town, shooting a new TV police drama, Fen Division Five. But Detective Jackman receives a disturbing tip-off that something is wrong.

Detective Marie Evans meanwhile is looking forward to moving into her dream home. But there’s no time to celebrate. The naked body of a young man is found at the river’s edge. He’s been strangled, his skin massaged in expensive oil.

Two days later, another handsome young man is discovered in a shallow lake. His throat cut. He too is lathered in body oil.

At the same time, an arch enemy from the past emerges. A master manipulator who has his sights on Jackman and Evans. From behind the bars of his high security prison, he’s putting the finishing touches to a devastating revenge plan.

As they hunt a brutal killer, Jackman and Evans are themselves hunted in a deadly game of cat and mouse – and the stakes could not be higher.

This was the last book in the series of the Jackman and Evans murder investigations. It was nice to have proper closure. It was a fabulous series and kept me spellbound with each book. Highly recommend! Having Richard Armitage as narrator was perfection.

I have read every single one of the Jackman and Evans books, and love them all. This one was no different. I hope Joy Ellis decides to continue, but if she doesn't, this was the perfect ending to the series. I highly recommend the entire series! And nobody narrates like Richard Armitage. His voice is like butter!

Fantastic Book!

I have listened to every Jackman and Evans book, and after listening to this latest one, all I can say is: FINALLY!

If you know, you know.

Great listen and I can't wait for more Jackman and Evans in the future.

Long awaited, great listen

Like many, I would listen to Richard Armitage "read the phonebook", so I have listened to all the Jackman and Evans books, of which this seems to be the last. I know this series is beloved by many but I found every one of them seems to rely on otherwise smart people doing REALLY dumb things and this one is no exception. I'm no sleuth but in every book, I am practically shouting "don't go there; don't agree to meet that mystery caller; don't go off with that person from your past who you think you can trust when you're supposed to be a really smart guy who has been TOLD not to go off on your own with ANYONE". And this book was no exception. Richard's narration, as with everything he does, is terrific and is basically what has saved this series for me. But the plotting, the character stupidity and the formulaic stories - they're the real let-down.

As always, Joy Ellis does not disappoint. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and the twist in the conclusion of the long running case.

Great listen

There are ups and downs to get this far in the Jackman and Evans series but overall the fens setting and all the characters here are irreplaceable and beloved. Rivers Edge is a crowning jewel on an auspicious crown of good reads.

Joy Ellis has really come along.
