A Good Book

A good intro into the meditation world. I dont agree with everything he say but at the same time i understand that he also had to make paletable to a western audience. I could of done without the guided meditions, not a fan especially in an audio book. I think that meditation should be done in silence and seclusion.

Deep Dive Into Buddhist Psychology

If you are interested in learning about Buddhist psychology and practice from almost every Buddhist tradition I highly recommend this audio book. I was introduced to this teaching on cassettes about 20 years ago. I learned so much from it. It was a big part in transforming my life. I still listen to it today and still keep learning new things. A very wise investment. Thank you Shinzen!

Wish I’d listened to this years ago.

I’ve been seeking answers my whole life. Answers that took a lot of pain to eventually find. Shinzen lays out here what took me 40 years to figure out on my own. Many throwaway comments in these lectures and meditations laid out simple clear answers to puzzles that took me months to work out on my own and with various teachers and therapists.

Fantastic deep and broad introduction to tackling personal challenges, meditation, enlightenment, along with Shinzen’s call to action that analytical minds more closely examine these topics, and that the insights and skills available to meditators became more commonplace.

While this is 16 hours, much of the most valuable and actionable advice is in the first few chapters.

I was familiar with Shinzen’s work before, and have attended some of his retreats, etc but generally found that Shinzen’s system is hard to recommend to would-be advanced meditators as I find Shinzen’s public materials, while rich and valuable, to be fairly inaccessible.

This recording, for me, was the missing link. A careful, deep and broad introduction to the best of Shinzen. His core descriptions of the meditative path, his clear and specific instructions for techniques, his careful and crisp definitions.

His techniques have evolved since these recordings, and those changes are worth checking out, but in my mind, this should be an outsiders first taste of Shinzen. It puts the rest in perspective, and may be all you need

Shinzen is Shinzen. Vast knowledge of languages, deep personal experience, a storied life, an obsession with science, and filled with endless insights and side stories.

Really glad I listened to this.
