Publisher's Summary

A canine Search and Rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in this riveting #1 New York Times bestseller from Nora Roberts.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life - a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life with her three loyal Labs. But all that changes on the day intensely private wood artist Simon Doyle barrels up her drive with an out-of-control puppy, desperate for her help.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

What the critics say

"[T]he romance is finely done, with Roberts's trademark banter lighting up the page. Fiona and Simon are the main attraction, but the setting and the supporting characters—with paws and without—provide a vivid backdrop." ( Publishers Weekly)

Search with dogs

Loved it. A love story without the mushy. Great adventure with great descriptions of the behaviours of both canine and handlers

Gotta love dogs!

I personally loved the dog parts. The story was good and the reading was great. Kind of predictable, but that didn't take away from the story. I enjoyed from start to finish.

Good but sometimes slow

It was overall a good story. Good Characters. Boring in parts, could use a few less chapters. Narrator was fabulous!

I want to love this book

I really want to love this book. It is so well read which really is what makes it good. The story is also very good. I just HATE the main Male character. Why make him such an ass. No women should ever put up being spoken to the way he does. I find a lot of Nora Roberts Male characters are the same. It really takes from the book.

Suspenseful and love the dogs

Another good read - cozy atmosphere with likeable characters, happy loyal dogs and a good ending. There is a formula here much like her other novels but it's one that works.

Searching for the right words.....

I bought this becuase it was on sale and thought I would give it a try. I enjoyed the interaction of the 2 main characters and the storyline. I did think it was way too long and it went in to too many details about dog training (which I have to admit that I picked up a few pointers). Not bad.

Must Love Dogs

You really need to have a soft spot for the canine in order to appreciate this book. 80% of the book is about training puppies and their humans, 10% romance, and the other 10% is about a serial killer that appears maybe every five chapters. Being that i love puppies and dogs i enjoyed the book, however Ms. Robert's could have added a few sub plots to make it more enjoyable. What i'm trying to say is if you aren't interested in search and rescue dogs, or the information on how to train a dog/puppy you may not enjoy this book. The narration was pretty decent, i'd listen to her again.

Not very exciting

While I did enjoy parts of this (and it was only 9.95!) I found that it seemed to jump whole sections. I felt like they fell in love in an instant, there was no sort of lead up to it, it was just like they were instantly into the full on relationship? I didn't mind the details about the searches, and dog training, but i am a dog lover so found it interesting. I guess i just felt like the story and the characters were a little shallow and predictable

Search Failure

It might make it as a dog training manual if you leave out all the human parts. It goes on and on with no story but lots of crude language and unfunny "jests". Both the author and the characters deserve to do a better job of telling the story!

If you want to train a dog, this book is for you.

I love dogs and have done dog rescue for years. I raised Labradors when I was younger. I still found this book dull and without much of a plot. It's mostly about training dogs and a little about crime.

The narrator has a sing-song choppy delivery which made me irritated after a few chapters.

I love Roberts' in death series and adore that reader, but this book is just terrible.

I wish I had my credit back.

narration is horrible

no one wants to listen to a whiny narrator. especially one that is periodically sing songy.

Great Story the reader was dreadful

Please no more Tanya Eby, the story was great but she made it boring and the love scenes sounded like she was reading a shopping list, please no more of her, more of Susan Ericksen and Angela Dawe they do Nora Roberts' books justice. when you are reading them yourself you can image the voices but when listening you need someone who makes the book alive and interesting, absolutely not Tanya Eby or Emily Durante for that mattet, both lisp!!!!!!!!

Couldn't finish for several reasons

I have read many Nora Roberts books and enjoyed them for the most part; however, this book was so slow-moving, the male lead not likeable, the romance forced, and the narrator had an irritating staccato-type speech pattern that I couldn't listen to anymore. I gave it 2 stars because I love dogs and the training tips were fun, but not enough to finish the book.

Great Story & Performance. Nora strikes again!!!

Wonderful story & plot. You can't beat Nora Roberts for romance with some suspense thrown in. I love the storyline with the dogs & their training. The narrator did an excellent job.
