About this listen
Two women. Two worlds. One love worth risking it all.
When professional soccer player Alex Grey goes on a vacation to the local South Carolina islands, she isn't anticipating any life-changing events. Just a relaxing weekend to prepare for the upcoming season. But that quickly changes when she finds herself the lone witness to a sailing accident and makes the decision to risk her own life to save a drowning woman—unwittingly coming to the rescue of a US senator's wife, Catharine Cleveland.
Despite the vast disparity between their worlds, the two women find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another after the near-catastrophic afternoon. Following a series of interactions from the soccer fields of Portland, to the Marina District of San Francisco Bay, and the cutthroat political circle of Washington, D.C., they find their friendship growing, transforming into an attraction neither woman can deny.
Nor an attraction either woman can comfortably embrace.
As the magnetism of their connection grows, both women are forced to decide if the pursuit of love is worth the cost while living under the scrutiny of the public eye.
The Senator's Wife is Book One of a three book series.

Great 1st in Series
I’m hooked and I’m going to finish the series for sure. I think the author needed a bit more editing and thought about story development at the beginning. However, the story got a lot better as it went on. It’s as if she knew the characters by the end of the book so I’m excited to hear the rest of the series.

Good story, with some missed opportunities
The good: I thought the writing and narration were generally very interesting and detailed. I’m a huge Abby Crayden fan and can buy a book simply because she’s narrating it. The not-so-good: There was a total absence of sex in the book, which felt a bit disappointing. I wasn’t sure why we didn’t get to see them in their most intimate moments, but did get to see a pretty graphic beating take place. I felt there was a missed opportunity here to share their inner world, and resolve the domestic violence. Perhaps this gets resolved in later books in the series. This is worth a listen, based on the strength of the writing and unique characters.

I reactivated my subscription for this. I'm an adult questioning their decision making skills
*****Spoiler
As someone who's in the closet, and plans to never come out these financially well off characters are even more spineless than me. I kept trying to like the main characters but it was very hard to find something likeable. Finally the book completely lost me when Catherine's husband assaulted her and she just said; well I have no choice, bitch call the police or a fucking hitman. Anyway because of depression and boredom I finished this book and can say it didn't have to be this long, so I will assume the complete trilogy could fit into a single book. This may be too harsh to say since I can't write nor read to save my life. Still I can't help but draw parallels to those tiktok videos that are unnecessary split into multiple parts.
Anyway I wrote this review because the majority on goodreads are positive which is why I picked up this audiobook in the first place but that was a bad decision. I wish I could say I've learned a lesson to prevent this from happening to me again, but I can at least provide a different perspective for other people in the form of a review.

So boring
If I didn’t pay for it I would have dnf it. So long and drawn out with nothing happening. I will not be reading the rest of the series.
