Publisher's Summary

Instant New York Times Best Seller

"Writing duo and reigning romance queens Christina Lauren are back with The Soulmate Equation, their most ambitious book to date." (PopSugar)

"A sexy, science-filled, and surprising romance full of warmth and wit." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

Chosen as a best pick by Bustle, Marie Claire, Entertainment Weekly, E! Online, PopSugar, BuzzFeed, Goodreads, Country Living, The Pioneer Woman, Woman’s World, Bookish, Bookreporter, Frolic, and more!

The New York Times best-selling author of The Unhoneymooners returns with a witty and effervescent novel about what happens when two people with everything on the line are thrown together by science—or is it fate? Perfect for fans of The Rosie Project and One Plus One.

Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but no amount of number crunching can convince her to step back into the dating world. After all, her father was never around, her hard-partying mother disappeared when she was six, and her ex decided he wasn’t “father material” before her daughter was even born. Jess holds her loved ones close, but working constantly to stay afloat is hard...and lonely.

But then Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new DNA-based matchmaking company that’s predicted to change dating forever. Finding a soulmate through DNA? The reliability of numbers: This Jess understands.

At least she thought she did, until her test shows an unheard-of 98 percent compatibility with another subject in the database: GeneticAlly’s founder, Dr. River Peña. This is one number she can’t wrap her head around, because she already knows Dr. Peña. The stuck-up, stubborn man is without a doubt not her soulmate. But GeneticAlly has a proposition: Get to know him and we’ll pay you. Jess - who is barely making ends meet—is in no position to turn it down, despite her skepticism about the project and her dislike for River. As the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the "Diamond" pairing that could launch GeneticAlly’s valuation sky-high, Jess begins to realize that there might be more to the scientist - and the science behind a soulmate—than she thought.

"Laugh-out-loud, sweet, charming, and humorous" (Library Journal, starred review), The Soulmate Equation proves that the delicate balance between fate and choice can never be calculated.

Loved it from beginning to end

Omgosh, I was hooked instantly listening to this book! Christina Lauren have a way of writing that gets you so involved in the story! The single mom Jessica is so relatable. She struggles with dating and taking what little time she has in life away from time spent with her daughter. She deep down wants a connection but is scared to put herself out there and Tinder is not the way to meet someone! Little did she know at her favourite coffee shop that she goes to with her BFF all the time, is a gorgeous genius that created a new way of dating based on science. The BFF is a romance writer and gets them both part of the trial!! With a shocking twist Jessica ends up getting a match of 98% with the creator (River) of the company. Before that happens they don’t start off on the right foot. She thinks he’s rude! But because they’ve never had a match that high before they beg for her to give this a shot and they start to date! They’re both a bit nerdy but are pretty much the perfect match!! Of course there is some ups and downs but this is such a sweet, funny, give you all the feels kind of book!!! This narrator did an amazing job. She’s new to me and I honestly don’t usually care for single narration and I wasn’t even thinking that through this book!

Soap narrator but great story

The story was very romantic. The characters were developed enough for a book of this size (I liked Fizzy especially). I also related very well to the main character, since I’m a single mom turning 30, and have been studying statistics, which was a nice bonus :)
I was expecting more steamyness from the intimate scenes, but they were on par with romcom style scenes you see in movies.
The narrator was pretty dull regarding voice (character) changes. All females sound the same and at the beginning of the book, it took a while (2-3 chapters) to really get into what she was saying. Maybe I got used to her, but it felt like she got better as the book progressed. Overall, not a reason to skip this book if you enjoy romance.
Also, not as sciency as I would have expected considering I found this book from a STEMinist reading list.
Overall, I recommend :) the romance and storyline are nice.

A good one!

I enjoyed this but I like The True Love Experiment more.
The chemistry between the two leads wasn’t as strong as I’d hoped it would be. I loved the concept of this book!

Story is a bit of a stretch, but I loved it!

My first Christina Lauren book and I loved it!
The main story is a bit out there, but the everything else is genuine and heart warming. I also loved the narrator, Patty Murin!

My fav Christina Lauren book

This is my favourite Christina Lauren book. I've read it a few times and love listening to the audiobook. Patti Murrin has the perfect voice and sounds just as I imagined Jess would sound like.

The ebook version I have doesn't include the epilogue so I was pleasantly surprised to have it included here.

Classic Christina Lauren book, and props to Audible!

This story was so cute, just a classic Christina Lauren rom-com; can’t go wrong! I want to say that I had this story for a while and I went to re-listen to it and realized they had updated it for an epilogue which I didn’t have initially! Not sure if the epilogue is from new print or if the copies always had an epilogue and Audible is just catching up but either way, thanks for updating my audiobook!

Easy listening with light humour

Enjoyed the book. Loved the merging of science and love. All characters were accurately described and relatable except Juno. An adorable child with intellect, logic and reasoning difficult to believe for her age.
Recommend book. I'd love to read it again.

Love love love

I smiled through this entire book! I knew I’d love the book (I love all CL books) but I didn’t expect this book to be one of my favorites. The characters and storyline were both unique and heartfelt. I wish I didn’t finish it so quickly!

What are you waiting for?

I must admit I’m fairly new to the romance genre, but even a complete amateur like myself can find such captivating parallels between this work and my very own life.
The oration and delivery were simply marvelous and the depth of character building had me clinching my teeth, feeling the thrills of the main and sub characters emotions alike.
The plot was so thick you’d need a scapula to to dissect it.

It’s a great read, written very well, and narrated with utmost perfection. The bits of humor balanced the story and somewhat dryness of the science and math related information that worked in.

I wish there were more stars.

Patti Murin makes everything better

Oh my heart.

Y'all this is might be my favorite CLo book (I'm sorry Finn). Over the years Christina Lauren has moved away from standard romance with the focus just on the couple. They have expanded the world of their characters and I think I love them more for that. This book isn't the Beautiful or Wild Seasons series. It falls somewhere between DY/HY and L&OW. And I love that so much. There are so many loves in Jess's life: her daughter, her grandparents, her bestie, and her love interest. All are important to Jess and to who Jess is. The story of Jess Davis would not exist without all these loves.

The realness of characters is my favorite part. The single mom struggle was so real. The incorporating of a child into the storytelling added so many layers. I usually shy away from single parent reads they are not my jam but CLo does it right.

Fizzy and Jess are friendship goals

With Patti as narrator there was no way I was not going to love this book.

Doesn’t seem like a Christina Lauren book?!?

I LOVE CL books but this is by far my least favorite…and I read most of their books during quarantine. The romance took way too long to get going and almost seemed like a subplot. It was a struggle to finish because I just couldn’t force myself to care about Jess or River and their romance seemed forced. Such a bummer but do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Sweet and engaging

Books don’t normally hold my attention. I found I didn’t want to stop listening. I thought it was well written and the characters were well defined. The performance, I had to drop the score a little bit at times she had trouble keeping her voice in character.
